An opportunity has arisen to join the Orthopaedic/Fracture Clinic at Wigan’s Royal Albert Edward Infirmary in a Band 4 Nurse Associate or Assistant Practitioner role.

To be considered for the Nursing Associate position, applicants must be NMC registered and hold a Foundation Degree. For the Assistant Practitioner role, a Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care is required. Please note that alternative qualifications cannot be accepted for either post. There is a a Job Description and Person Specification attached to the vacancy for each of the roles. 

All applicants must also meet the following essential criteria:
•    GCSEs Grade C or above in Maths and English Language
or
•     New GCSE Grades 4–9 in Maths and English Language
or
•     Functional Skills Level 2 in Maths and English

The post is  a 37.5 hrs  secondment / fixed term position to cover maternity leave for 12 months. 

NHS Employees should secure their manager’s agreement for a secondment arrangement ideally prior to applying, as this will be a condition of any offer made. This vacancy is advertised on a fixed term basis as It has been established to provide cover for an employee on maternity leave and will end in 12 months or when the substantive post holder returns. Whilst this post is advertised on an acting / secondment basis there is the potential that this post may become permanent in the future.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking an enthusiastic, self motivated individual who will be committed to providing high quality  care to both Adults and Children with trauma injuries  in an outpatient setting. Working within a multidisciplinary team of Doctors, nurses .plaster technicians and physiotherapists in a friendly and supportive environment.

The role of the Nursing Associate / Assistant Practitioner is to work with the multi professional team and the Registered Nurse contributing to the ongoing assessment and care of Trauma patients both Adults and children providing and monitoring care in line with the service pathways and as agreed with supervising clinicians

Have a good knowledge and understanding of wound care and some trauma and orthopaedic knowledge. To participate in the assessing, planning ,implementing of treatment and care in an outpatient setting
