Luminal Gastroenterology Consultant
NHS Medical & Dental: Consultant
AI tools like chatbots and virtual assistants can support you as you complete your application. For example, they can check for spelling or grammar errors, or help you to decide what to include.
But they shouldn’t replace your own responses or be used to write the application for you.
Relying too much on AI can negatively impact your chances of success, because automatically generated answers:
- might not be specific or relevant enough to address the criteria in the recruitment profile
- often seem generic and not personalised enough – an AI response won’t show your unique voice and perspective
- could misrepresent information about you, such as your qualifications, skills and experience
We monitor applications for any behaviour that could create an unfair advantage, and we check all references carefully. You are likely to be tested on your experience at interview, so be honest and make sure all the information in your application is correct.

Thank you for your taking the time to consider this opportunity to work with us. We are firmly committed to being the best possible provider of healthcare and place to work in the NHS and we have an exciting opportunity to recruit to 2 Luminal Gastroenterology Consultant positions.
The endoscopy service is one of the largest in the region, serving a population of more than 1.1m. We have been the beneficiary of significant national capital investment with a new 2 roomed endoscopy unit opening at Hinckley Hospital (CDC) in April 2025. In August 2025 we will open a new Endoscopy Unit at the LGH site which will comprise of 6 procedure rooms and 20 individual patient pods. The unit will have excellent training facilities with SMOTS installed in three procedure rooms linking to a large seminar room which will facilitate the wide range of JAG courses the department run. This investment means there will be physical capacity of 16 rooms, across three acute hospitals and 4 community sites, enabling the LLR endoscopy service to see upwards of 34,000 patients per year. Offering highly complex procedures at two of our acute sites, as well as high volumes of diagnostics and new developments such as transnasal procedures.

This is an exciting time to be joining the Gastroenterology Team at UHL with investment being secured to expand the medical and nursing workforce. We are delighted to offer opportunities for 3 luminal gastroenterology consultants. These posts have been created to expand the team and we would look to support colleagues who wish to develop their subspecialty interest for example in IBD, nutrition, upper and lower therapeutic procedures or neuroendocrine. All posts will work across the 3 sites within UHL and have Community sessions within their job plan.
It is expected that the post holder will take part in the Department’s on-call rota for In-reach and GI Bleed as well as working in their specialist area of Gastroenterology. This appointment will provide consultant ward rounds, outpatient services, endoscopic services and be a part of relevant MDT’s. Successful candidates will be encouraged and supported to further develop their own skills and will also be expected to be involved in Undergraduate and Postgraduate education and research.
We are looking for Consultant Gastroenterologist’s who can show that they lead in the right way and that can evidence what they deliver.

UHL is a Trust with regional and national reach. It has an operating turnover more than £1.4 billion and it provides a wide range of general and specialist services across a diverse range of communities in Leicester, Leicestershire, and Rutland (LLR) and beyond. Whilst we are a large Trust, it is essential that we ensure all our communities, patients and colleagues receive a personal and positive experience when they interact with the Trust reflected in our new vision Leading in Healthcare, Trusted in Communities.
We have four primary goals:
- high-quality care for all,
- being a great place to work,
- partnerships for impact, and
- research and education excellence
And we will embed health equality in all we do - taking active steps to reduce the avoidable differences in healthcare that some people face, working in partnership with communities.
Our strategy is underpinned by new values and we will work to ensure they are an everyday reality for all:
- we are compassionate,
- we are proud,
- we are inclusive, and
- we are one team
This is an exciting moment as we look to the future with clarity on what we already do well and where we need to focus our energies to make an even bigger difference for the people we serve.
