Clinical Fellow in General Medicine

NHS Medical & Dental: Local Appointment nodal point 2 (MT02)

AI tools like chatbots and virtual assistants can support you as you complete your application. For example, they can check for spelling or grammar errors, or help you to decide what to include.

But they shouldn’t replace your own responses or be used to write the application for you.

Relying too much on AI can negatively impact your chances of success, because automatically generated answers:

  • might not be specific or relevant enough to address the criteria in the recruitment profile
  • often seem generic and not personalised enough – an AI response won’t show your unique voice and perspective
  • could misrepresent information about you, such as your qualifications, skills and experience

We monitor applications for any behaviour that could create an unfair advantage, and we check all references carefully. You are likely to be tested on your experience at interview, so be honest and make sure all the information in your application is correct.

Job overview

University Hospitals of Leicester, Specialist Medicine (ESM CMG) are delighted to announce we are looking for Clinical Fellow (LED) to join the department at FY2 or CT Level, dependant on experience. The role is full time and may include working the oncall rota (Nights / weekends / long days mixed rota)

You will be allocated a clinical and educational supervisor and have access to training opportunities and e-portfolio. A one month supernumerary shadowing period will be given to doctors new to the NHS with limited experience to ensure you are well supported. The contract will be for either 6 months or 1 year initially broken down into 4 month rotations, you may be able to rotate specialties within medicine each rotation.

These posts will be based in General Medicine.

You may be posted to either Leicester Royal Infirmary (LRI), Leicester General Hospital (LGH) or Glenfield General Hospital (GGH) and may be required to cover across all three sites as rostered or if short notice staffing issues arise.

Main duties of the job

ll posts have a service element and the following covers the majority of duties. There will be minor variations in different hospitals but the list is aimed at covering the majority of duties:

  1. Supervise, monitor and assist the Resident Doctors in the day-to-day management of in-patients in posts
  2. Liaise between nurses, Doctors, patients, relatives and senior medical staff.
  3. Attend and participate in ward rounds and junior doctor tasks as timetabled
  4. Take part in rostered emergency / oncall work.
  5. Dictate discharge summaries and TTO letters.
  6. Attend weekly educational and multidisciplinary sessions.
  7. Teach medical students as directed.
  8. Co-operate with members of the personnel department when monitoring hours of work and other personnel issues.
  9. Attend induction in each hospital or new department
  10. Comply with all local policies including dress code, annual and study leave etc.
  11. Assist and work with the JDA team to ensure service delivery (ie ward cross cover) through pre planning your rota and leave commitments
  12. Timely completion of discharge letters (TTOs) prioritising unwell patients for care and those going home that day to ensure early discharges.

Working for our organisation

ur new strategy, developed with the support and feedback of colleagues, patients, and partners, is our compass for the next seven years (2023-2030).

We have four primary goals:

  • high-quality care for all,
  • being a great place to work,
  • partnerships for impact, and
  • research and education excellence

And we will embed health equality in all we do - taking active steps to reduce the avoidable differences in healthcare that some people face, working in partnership with communities.

Our strategy is underpinned by new values and we will work to ensure they are an everyday reality for all:

  • we are compassionate,
  • we are proud,
  • we are inclusive, and
  • we are one team

This is an exciting moment as we look to the future with clarity on what we already do well and where we need to focus our energies to make an even bigger difference for the people we serve.
