Higher Clinical Fellow in Diabetes & Endocrinology

NHS Medical & Dental: Local Appointment nodal point 4 (MT04)

AI tools like chatbots and virtual assistants can support you as you complete your application. For example, they can check for spelling or grammar errors, or help you to decide what to include.

But they shouldn’t replace your own responses or be used to write the application for you.

Relying too much on AI can negatively impact your chances of success, because automatically generated answers:

  • might not be specific or relevant enough to address the criteria in the recruitment profile
  • often seem generic and not personalised enough – an AI response won’t show your unique voice and perspective
  • could misrepresent information about you, such as your qualifications, skills and experience

We monitor applications for any behaviour that could create an unfair advantage, and we check all references carefully. You are likely to be tested on your experience at interview, so be honest and make sure all the information in your application is correct.

Job overview

YOU MUST HAVE MEMBERSHIP OF ROYAL COLLEGE OF PHYSICIANS (MRCP) TO BE ELIGIBLE TO APPLY

You will not be shortlisted if you do not meet the minimum criteria so please do not apply without full MRCP exams as your application will be declined - fraudulent applications may be escalated.

The ideal post holder will also have NHS experience in the UK.

Please see attached job description and personal spec.

Diabetes & Endocrinology are looking for a Higher Clinical Fellow ST4+ Registrar Doctor to join the department. The post includes working the oncall general medicine rota at LRI and LGH hospitals.

Our diabetes care service is delivered in close partnership with local GPs to ensure patients across Leicestershire receive high-quality, consistent care. Following screening by their GP, patients are referred to our specialist diabetes centres and added to a central diabetes register to support ongoing monitoring and care.

Our expert multidisciplinary team includes consultant diabetologists, diabetes specialist nurses, dietitians, podiatrists, psychologists, and clinic support staff.

We offer a comprehensive range of services through our dedicated diabetes clinics. This includes retinopathy screening to detect early signs of diabetes-related eye damage, and a specialist diabetic foot clinic. The foot clinic features a multidisciplinary team, including an orthotist who designs and fits bespoke footwear for patients with diabetes-related foot ulcers.

Main duties of the job

·       Undertake general, specialist and sub-specialist Endocrinology and Diabetes clinics under consultant supervision.

·       Work with the Endocrine and Diabetes Specialist Nurses and Ancillary staff to ensure the effective running of the Kieffer-Howlett Investigations Unit and Diabetes In-Reach services.

·       Become involved with Audit, Quality Improvement and Research taking place in the Departments.

·       Contribute towards the Thyroid Shared Care Scheme.

·       Endocrinology in-reach for in-patients across the 3 main UHL sites, mainly at the Leicester Royal Infirmary.

·       Co-ordinate specialist MDT meetings across Endocrinology and Diabetes.

·       Teaching and training for post-graduate doctors, allied health care professionals and students.

·       Attend weekly educational and multidisciplinary meetings.

·       Participate in out-of-hours General Internal Medical on-calls covering the admissions wards, Emergency Department in-reach and the medical wards at the Leicester Royal Infirmary and Leicester General Hospital on a rotational on-call basis.

·       Co-operate with members of the personnel department when monitoring hours of work and other personnel issues.

·      Attend induction in each hospital or new department.

Working for our organisation

Our new strategy, 'Leading in healthcare, trusted in communities' was developed with the support and feedback of colleagues, patients, and partners and is our compass for the next seven years (2023-2030).

We have four primary goals:

  • high-quality care for all,
  • being a great place to work,
  • partnerships for impact, and
  • research and education excellence

And we will embed health equality in all we do - taking active steps to reduce the avoidable differences in healthcare that some people face, working in partnership with communities.

Our strategy is underpinned by new values and we will work to ensure they are an everyday reality for all:

  • we are compassionate,
  • we are proud,
  • we are inclusive, and
  • we are one team

This is an exciting moment as we look to the future with clarity on what we already do well and where we need to focus our energies to make an even bigger difference for the people we serve.
