Consultant Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgeon
NHS Medical & Dental: Consultant
AI tools like chatbots and virtual assistants can support you as you complete your application. For example, they can check for spelling or grammar errors, or help you to decide what to include.
But they shouldn’t replace your own responses or be used to write the application for you.
Relying too much on AI can negatively impact your chances of success, because automatically generated answers:
- might not be specific or relevant enough to address the criteria in the recruitment profile
- often seem generic and not personalised enough – an AI response won’t show your unique voice and perspective
- could misrepresent information about you, such as your qualifications, skills and experience
We monitor applications for any behaviour that could create an unfair advantage, and we check all references carefully. You are likely to be tested on your experience at interview, so be honest and make sure all the information in your application is correct.
Job overview
The Paediatric Orthopaedic Unit offers a full range of service and tertiary referral services. We receive referrals from Northamptonshire and Lincolnshire. We are part of the East Midlands Operational Delivery Network (ODN) and we lead an active clubfoot network as part of this.
We offer specialist neuromuscular, spina bifida, transitional and clubfoot and hip scanning clinics with the MDT. Routine children’s trauma is dealt with by the trauma team, with whom we work very closely, with complex trauma and infection cared for by the unit. There is a dedicated paediatric trauma list weekly with an additional paediatric orthopaedic presence on the general trauma lists 3 days a week.
We benefit from close working relationships with paediatric specialities, and with adult Orthopaedic colleagues
Main duties of the job
The post is based at the Leicester Royal Infirmary, a major teaching hospital closely allied with the University of Leicester and the medical school.
This post is a substantive post, to fill a vacancy currently occupied by a Locum Consultant. Subspecialty interests of interest to the department are: rotational malalignment surgery, trauma and hip dysplasia, other interests will be supported whenever possible. It is expected that the post holder will also be comfortable managing the generality of paediatric orthopaedics.
This post is one of four surgeons and does not have an on call commitment, although there is a weekly advice and guidance duty.
Working for our organisation
Our new strategy, developed with the support and feedback of colleagues, patients, and partners, is our compass for the next seven years (2023-2030).
We have four primary goals:
- high-quality care for all,
- being a great place to work,
- partnerships for impact, and
- research and education excellence
And we will embed health equality in all we do - taking active steps to reduce the avoidable differences in healthcare that some people face, working in partnership with communities.
Our strategy is underpinned by new values and we will work to ensure they are an everyday reality for all:
- we are compassionate,
- we are proud,
- we are inclusive, and
- we are one team
This is an exciting moment as we look to the future with clarity on what we already do well and where we need to focus our energies to make an even bigger difference for the people we serve.
