Employer heading
Deputy Clinical Service Lead (CPET & Prehabilitation)
NHS AfC: Band 7
AI tools like chatbots and virtual assistants can support you as you complete your application. For example, they can check for spelling or grammar errors, or help you to decide what to include.
But they shouldn’t replace your own responses or be used to write the application for you.
Relying too much on AI can negatively impact your chances of success, because automatically generated answers:
- might not be specific or relevant enough to address the criteria in the recruitment profile
- often seem generic and not personalised enough – an AI response won’t show your unique voice and perspective
- could misrepresent information about you, such as your qualifications, skills and experience
We monitor applications for any behaviour that could create an unfair advantage, and we check all references carefully. You are likely to be tested on your experience at interview, so be honest and make sure all the information in your application is correct.
Job overview
This is a unique opportunity to take a senior role in a multi-disciplinary team supporting the continuing development of an integrated Cardio-Pulmonary Exercise Testing (CPET) and Prehabilitation service.
UHL has been delivering an Anaesthetist-led CPET service for more than 10years to support surgical decision-making. Over the last three years, the team have introduced Physiologist delivered CPET clinics. The successful applicant will deliver CPET clinics, in addition to referral triage and clinic management including equipment maintenance and staff supervision.
Prehabilitation is an emerging clinical speciality providing patient-centre care and utilising multi-modal interventions to support people to prepare both physically and emotionally for major surgery, usually for cancer. The UHL Fit4Surgery intervention has been running for 5 years and comprises both face-to-face assessment and exercise sessions with home-based exercise to support patients. This role will also include a prehabilitation caseload and hence provides a fantastic opportunity to combine different clinical skills to provide seamless patient-centred care.
The successful applicant will have a proven track record of managing and developing physiologist-delivered clinical services and excellent clinical physiology skills. The role will support you to enhance your skills as a clinical practitioner by working within the CPET and Prehabilitation department.

Working for our organisation

We have four primary goals:

Our strategy is underpinned by new values and we will work to ensure they are an everyday reality for all:
- we are compassionate,
- we are proud,
- we are inclusive, and
