Band 6 Cath Lab Radiographer
NHS AfC: Band 6
AI tools like chatbots and virtual assistants can support you as you complete your application. For example, they can check for spelling or grammar errors, or help you to decide what to include.
But they shouldn’t replace your own responses or be used to write the application for you.
Relying too much on AI can negatively impact your chances of success, because automatically generated answers:
- might not be specific or relevant enough to address the criteria in the recruitment profile
- often seem generic and not personalised enough – an AI response won’t show your unique voice and perspective
- could misrepresent information about you, such as your qualifications, skills and experience
We monitor applications for any behaviour that could create an unfair advantage, and we check all references carefully. You are likely to be tested on your experience at interview, so be honest and make sure all the information in your application is correct.
Job overview
The Cath Lab team are a dynamic, friendly multidisciplinary team providing 24/7 support for adult and paediatric cardiac services working across two departments; five cardiac cath labs and one hybrid theatre at Glenfield Hospital and a children's hybrid theatre at Leicester Royal Infirmary. The UHL radiology team encourages extended roles and this specialty offers fantastic opportunities for both personal and professional development .
As a cath lab radiographer you will provide expert imaging for complex cardiac interventional procedures operating a range of technical imaging equipment. Radiation safety is a very important aspect of this role and you will be expected to advise and support the cath lab team in maintaining IRMER compliance, dose optimisation and the highest standard of care for our patients.
You will receive full training in a wide range of procedures, using different equipment. These will range from routine diagnostic procedures through to highly complex 'cutting edge' interventions. Previous cardiac catheter lab radiography experience is desirable, but not essential as training will be closely supported by the Practice Development Lead and tailored appropriately.
The core service hours are 08:00 - 18:00, as a full time employee you will be working 4 days a week as part of a 7 day working rota and contributing to 24/7 on call service.
A free hospital hopper bus, which travels between the LRI and the Glenfield Hospital, is available for all UHL staff.
Main duties of the job
In the role of cath lab radiographer you will be expected to
- Carry out cardiac procedures in our advanced cardiac cath labs, demonstrating proficiency in imaging techniques .
- Work closely with cardiologists to provide real time imaging guidance during diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures.
- Utilise the equipment within the department adhering to national and local protocols relating to the radiation safety of both the patient and the staff.
- Uphold high standard of patient care ensuring a smooth and reassuring experience throughout the procedure.
- Collaborate with the multidisciplinary cardiac catheter lab team to optimise workflow efficiency and maintain a patient centred approach in a fast paced environment.
- Participate in ongoing professional development, attending relevant training and conferences to enhance skills and knowledge specific to cardiac catheter lab procedures.
- Provide guidance to junior staff members, fostering a collaborative and learning-orientated environment within the department.
Working for our organisation
Our new strategy, developed with the support and feedback of colleagues, patients, and partners, is our compass for the next seven years (2023-2030).
We have four primary goals:
- high-quality care for all,
- being a great place to work,
- partnerships for impact, and
- research and education excellence
And we will embed health equality in all we do - taking active steps to reduce the avoidable differences in healthcare that some people face, working in partnership with communities.
Our strategy is underpinned by new values and we will work to ensure they are an everyday reality for all:
- we are compassionate,
- we are proud,
- we are inclusive, and
- we are one team
This is an exciting moment as we look to the future with clarity on what we already do well and where we need to focus our energies to make an even bigger difference for the people we serve.
