The General Surgical department at Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust provides a variety of services across the Trust sites including General Surgery, Upper GI surgery, and Colorectal Surgery.
An opportunity exists for an enthusiastic surgeon seeking an opportunity to join the General Surgical, Upper GI and Colorectal Surgical team for a permanent appointment. This post does include an on-call commitment.
Main duties of the job
The department serves a population of 210,000 for General Surgery, comprising of list cases, endoscopy sessions, emergencies and outpatient clinics.
The department is extremely busy and the person appointed will take part in regular operating and outpatient sessions as well as having ward duties.

The post would suit a good team player dedicated to high quality patient care. The opportunity exists to work in a non-hierarchical setting and offer a wide range of general surgical procedures in a busy district general hospital.
The appointee will be expected to deliver high quality care to the patients presenting to the department.

Qualifications & Eligibility
Essential criteria
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
- Full registration with the GMC at time of appointment.
- Eligibility to work in the UK.
- Evidence of achievement of ST1/CT1 competences in a relevant specialty at time of application and likelihood of achieving ST2/CT2 competences in a relevant specialty by the start date of the post.
- • applicants have undertaken undergraduate medical training in English oR • have the following scores in the academic lnternational English Language Testing System (IELTS) – Overall 7.5, Speaking 7, Listening 7, Reading 7, Writing 7 OR • have achieved at least grade B in the medicine version of the Occupational English Test, in each area, speaking, listening, reading & writing
- Evidence of 4 years (FTE) postgraduate training in the UK (or equivalent training) of which at least 2 year’s training must be in relevant specialty or a recognised equivalent training.
Clinical
Essential criteria
- General Surgery experience and general skills so able to demonstrate they can safely provide Middle Grade cover for acute on-call.
- Relevant specialty clinical knowledge: capacity to apply sound clinical knowledge relevant to the job, MRCS or equivalent
- Audit: evidence of active participation in audit.
- Learning and personal development: demonstrates interest in the specialty required for the job. Demonstrates a commitment to maintaining professional skills and knowledge relevant to the job
- Demonstrates a willingness to fully engage in appraisal. Self-awareness and ability to accept and learn from feedback.
Desirable criteria
- ATLS
- Previous experience at Middle Grade level
- Teaching: evidence of experience in teaching where required in the job.
