Job overview
Teaching Fellows are a critical part of our Undergraduate Team. As a Fellow you will have a lot of interaction with the students on placement with us and support them on placement. You will deliver bedside teaching, examination teaching, seminars and be part of the simulation team that provide the 5th years with simulation training and generally be a mentor and role model.
The role is Monday to Friday 8.30am to 4.30pm (or may be part-time) and is based in the Undergraduate Education Centre.
Main duties of the job
- Deliver teaching sessions to students. This may be bedside teaching (in small groups observing student history taking and examination skills and giving feedback), case-based discussions, delivering seminars, teaching physical examination skills etc
- Use Trust systems to identify patients for bedside teaching and obtain consent ensuring patients understand what is required
- Assist with simulation training for 5th year students providing detailed feedback and areas for improvement
- Support the Clinical Skills Team in the delivery of mandatory training and procedural skills training
- Develop teaching materials/sessions in response to student feedback and identified delivery gaps
- Deliver 5th year “Carry the Bleep”, “Medical Emergencies” and “Surgical Emergencies” sessions using (and updating existing resources) to help prepare students for F1
- Undertake BLS training update to become a recognised trainer for students
- Be a ‘friendly ear’ for students to raise any concerns they may have while on placement. This may be teaching delivery, a patient safety concern, a complaint and escalate as appropriate
- You may need to address any concerns you have regarding a student/their behaviour directly
- Postholders will be expected to raise awareness of undergraduate medical education with resident doctor colleagues and build up a range of contacts and support for the students to enhance the student experience

- Holds Certificate in Medical Education / Train the Trainer / Proven Interest
