Communications Manager

NHS AfC: Band 7

Job overview

Recent events have shown how vitally important communicating clearly and effectively with service users, colleagues and members of the public is when it comes to the NHS. Never before has the opportunity been so great to really make a mark and share our messages with the people who need to hear them the most.

We have an exciting opportunity to join the team celebrating mental health, dementia, learning disability and autism services in Lincolnshire.

The role is instrumental in keeping colleagues, service uses and the public up-to-date with all of the great things happening within the Trust. Of course you’ll have an excellent standard of written work, be used to liaising closely and working proactively with local media and key stakeholders, along with experience of writing and delivering communications project plans.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential too, as is the ability to work across the organisation and wider Lincolnshire health and care system at all levels – bringing colleagues with you and helping them to share more of the good work they do every single day. You’ll need to develop and help lead on complex projects with tight deadlines, so a close attention to detail is also imperative.

No two days are ever the same in the NHS so being able to adapt is key – you’ll need to be good at prioritising as well as supporting and managing a close-knit team of multi-talented communication professionals – being the best role model you can be.

Main duties of the job

Manage internal and external communication initiatives and ensure the delivery of a first class proactive and reactive media service; developing and maintaining relationships with local, regional and specialist media.

Implement the agreed communications strategies for the Trust.

Give expert advice to senior management in a crisis management situation.

Lead the development of communications plans for projects and campaigns.

Line manage the team’s communication officers, ensuring their work aligns with all other relevant internal and external communications activities.

Represent and deputise for the head of communications where required.

May be required to work out of core office hours to attend or assist with evening or weekend meetings and events when necessary.

Please see attached job description for full duties for this role.
