Switchboard Team Leader

NHS AfC: Band 3

Job overview

Are you a natural leader with excellent communications skills and a passion for helping other people? If so, we could have the perfect job for you.

We’re looking for a new Switchboard Team Leader for our hospital in Scunthorpe who can support and direct our fantastic teams in manning our busy switchboard, supporting our colleagues, patients, and their loved ones, 24/7, 365 days a year.

Of course, we don’t expect you to be on site 24 hours a day, so you will be working closely with our existing team leader, supporting each other to jointly manage the team.

Your hours will mainly be Monday to Friday, from 8.30am to 5pm, although on rare occasions we may ask you to vary this at short notice for the need of the service.

Occasionally, we may also need you to travel to our hospital in Grimsby, using our free cross-site shuttle bus service.

Main duties of the job

We need an enthusiastic, self-motivated leader, whose main focus will be leading our Telephonists and ensuring that all calls are handled effectively and efficiently – helping to reassure people at what can be a very difficult time – as well as handling emergency calls and responding to critical alarm systems.

This is a busy team, with lots of conflicting demands, so you’ll need to be able to multi-task and stay calm under pressure, as well as having a good level of IT skills.

You’ll also need excellent organisation and planning skills, ensuring that the Switchboard team is always there for our patients, whilst looking after the wellbeing of the team and abiding by key legislation such as the Working Time Directive.

So, if this sounds like you, please get in touch.

Working for our organisation

The Humber Health Partnership is one of the largest acute and community Partnership arrangements in the NHS, seeing well over one million patients every year and managing a budget of over £1.3 billion.

Made up of two Trusts - Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust (NLAG) and Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (HUTH) - our Partnership has significant ambitions and is committed to delivering world-class hospital and community services for the 1.65 million people we serve.

Together we employ nearly 20,000 staff. Our five main hospital sites are Diana, Princess of Wales Hospital, Scunthorpe General Hospital and Goole and District Hospital, for NLAG and Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill Hospital for HUTH.

As Teaching Hospitals working with the Hull York Medical School, we both lead and contribute to research in many areas - biomedical research, primary care, palliative medicine, cardiovascular and respiratory medicine, vascular surgery, cancer surgery and oncology.

We believe that by developing a diverse, inclusive, innovative, skilled and caring workforce, we can deliver excellent care to our patients and a great future for our employees, our Partnership and our community.
