Are you a compassionate individual, seeking a new role in a friendly, collaborative service, who aim to deliver a professional and caring service to the bereaved? If so, please consider applying for this full time Medical Examiner Officer Role, working across sites within the Royal Free Group.

This important role at Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust, working closely with our Lead Medical Examiner Officer and Medical Examiner Colleagues, offers day to day support in ensuring deaths within the Royal Free Group and the London Borough of Barnet Community services are scrutinised by the team of Medical Examiners, accurately recorded in a timely manner and updating bereaved people, in close collaboration with bereavement services.

This national service led by NHSEngland ensures accuracy of certification of the cause of death and to improve involvement of bereaved people in the process. The aim of this service is to scrutinise all deaths within acute hospitals and local communities. We are committed to maintaining and developing a responsive and fluid service, which is adaptable to the needs of our trust, our communities, and our workforce.

The Medical Examiner system contributes to and enhances governance, accuracy and the service to grieving friends and families, working closely with the Trust Bereavement Service.

 

Main duties of the job

·         To support Medical Examiners in their role in scrutinising the circumstances and causes of death. 

·         To participate in the implementation of the reforms of death certification and to aim to improve the processes of death certification and referrals to the Coroner.

·         To participate in developing protocols, guidelines and policies for the development and delivery of the Medical Examiner Service at Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust in tandem with ongoing bereavement and care after death policy and processes.

·         To be a senior point of contact and source of advice for relatives of deceased patients, healthcare professionals and coroner and registration services.

·         To ensure that all cases and discussions are recorded on the electronic system; and use the system to provide audits, reports and generate and request payments

·         To provide support for the Bereavement Service as required and requested.

·         To be able to work across the Trust at all sites as required.

 

·         To contribute to the ME service 7 days working provision
