Main duties of the job
The post holder will work under the direction of the ward manager with responsibility for:
The assessment of care needs for all patients, ensuring appropriately planned care is both implemented and evaluated.
He/ she is expected to work with minimal supervision and will be designated to take charge of the ward in the absence of the manager.
He/she will provide care to patients without supervision to facilitate the prevention of admission or reduction in hospitalisation.
He/ she will act as an effective clinical leader and will ensure the clinical and professional development of all staff for whom they are responsible.
Circumstances may arise for the post holder to assist in providing clinical cover in all areas of the paediatric unit.

- Substantial paediatric experience
- Child Protection experience and training
- Experience of supporting and developing junior staff.
- Experience of working with the MDT.
- Experience of teaching
- Experience of managing a team.
Desirable criteria
- Experience or risk management / clinical governance / policy and procedure development
- up to date with latest children safe guarding training
- Able to explain and give example of any recent team supporting exercise.
- To be able to participate in decision making within the MDT.
- Recent involvement in team development teachings.
- Able to demonstrate team leading evidences, for example leadership skills.

- To have a practice assessor competence to support students as well as staff.
- To have a good standard of professional communication skills. For example manages MDT teams.
- to be able recognise own limitations and escalate appropriately to senior teams.
- To demonstrate the ability to perform various skills that are required in a paediatric setting.
- Able to clearly understand the requirement of documentation as per NMC Code of conduct and Trust policy.
- To be able to recognise the need to advocate and prioritise for the child and their family.
- To be able to demonstrate high skill of assessing situations and escalate and develop a care plan.

You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
