Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Trauma and Orthopaedic therapy team at Barnet Hospital as a Highly Specialist Occupational Therapist, on a permanent, full-time basis.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic individual with a visionary outlook to join our team, where you will be able to develop specialist occupational therapy knowledge and skills within the specialty of trauma and orthopaedics.

You will be joining a friendly, dynamic and cohesive integrated therapy team which prides itself on close working relationships within the MDT.

The team also has strong links with the orthopaedic therapy teams at the other hospitals within the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust, as well as community services, local rehabilitation services and the North East London and Essex trauma network.

Within the Band 7 role, you will assess and treat patients with a variety of orthopaedic injuries, including neck of femur fractures, upper limb, lower limb, and spinal injuries, as well as patients following complex elective orthopaedic surgery, working closely with other health and social care professionals to ensure excellent patient care throughout the patient journey.

Main duties of the job

Successful candidates will be expected to manage their own clinical caseload autonomously, including complex patient presentations, by utilising a high level of clinical reasoning, organisational and prioritisation skills. They must be flexible to fluctuating priorities, enjoy working in a fast-paced environment and be able to demonstrate efficient and effective discharge planning. They will need to apply excellent communication skills with MDT colleagues, including attending daily board rounds, MDT and other meetings.

You will be required to teach, supervise and appraise junior staff and students, whilst being supported by other highly skilled and experienced band 7 therapists. You will be expected to have an active role in developing the orthopaedic service at Barnet Hospital, and support the Clinical Lead therapist to ensure that the service continues to run smoothly and effectively through careful operational planning.

This is a permanent, full time (37.5 hour) position. The post holder will also be required to work bank holidays and weekends, in line with the department’s 7-day working policy.

Working for our organisation

The Therapy Service is passionate about developing and delivering a world class care service, and will provide training and development opportunities, including supervision and appraisal, to ensure you are supported in your role.

There is a strong education ethos with a senior training program and frequent opportunities to learn from other disciplines both formally and informally.

Applicants with a commitment to lifelong learning will be fully supported and given ample opportunity to take part in quality improvement ideas and finding ways to improve staff satisfaction and patient outcomes.

As a Band 7 you will be encouraged to enhance your leadership and management skills through excellent training programmes provided by the Trust.

The post holder will uphold the Royal Free World Class Values when interacting with service users, staff, colleagues, clients and patients alike so that everyone at Barnet Hospital can feel:

Welcome all of the time
Confident because we are clearly communicating
Respected and cared for
Reassured that they are always in safe hands

Our catchment area spans diverse communities, and we are committed to providing services that meet the needs of the people who use them. Enthusiasm for advancing equality for LGBT+, BME and people with disabilities is essential.
