Job overview
As our department is an accredited clinical undergraduate orthoptic training centre, the post holder will also share Lead Clinical Tutor duties with other Lead Orthoptists across our department sites, to actively support the undergraduate placements.

Clinical Excellence: Provide a highly specialised orthoptic service, including the daily assessment, diagnosis, and management of a full range of paediatric and adult patients.

Leadership & Management: Support the clinical leadership and management of orthoptic services and staff at Edgware Community Hospital, Barnet Hospital, and Chase Farm Hospital (as agreed with the Head Orthoptist)
Main duties of the job
- Deliver expert clinical care through the advanced assessment diagnosis and management of complex orthoptic cases.
- Actively drive the development and leadership of specialised pathways within both paediatric and adult services
- Collaborate with senior colleagues to lead and deliver high quality clinical education and training
- Clinical Education: As an accredited undergraduate training centre, you will share lead clinical duties with other lead orthoptists to support and oversee undergraduate placements.

- Possess a Degree or Diploma of Orthoptics
- HCPC registration
Desirable criteria
- BIOS Clinic Tutors Course/ equivalent
- Clinical Teaching qualification
- Management/ Leadership qualification
Skills and Aptitudes
Essential criteria
- To be able to show good working relationships at all levels and to work as part of a multidisciplinary team or independently.
- To be able to work under pressure in a busy environment, whilst maintaining high quality Orthoptic practise.
- The ability to handle difficult situations calmly and effectively to deal with patients, tactfully, efficiently and with empathy.
Work Experience
Essential criteria
- Extensive experience in all aspects of clinical Orthoptics involving specialist services.
- Experience of teaching student Orthoptists, doctors, pre-registration optometrists, nurses.
- Evidence of CPD
Desirable criteria
- Demonstrate knowledge and clinical skills relevant to Orthoptics in extended roles.
- Have management/ leadership experience.
