Job overview
Beckenham Beacon Urology is a standalone department offering a wide range of services and specialties for adults at both local and regional levels.
As an experienced Urology Nurse, you will be responsible for supporting the Urology Outpatient Department (OPD) at the Beckenham Beacon site, ensuring that our service users’ needs are met through the delivery of high-quality care. As part of a department of excellence, you will provide a person-centred approach to promoting independence and well-being, delivering evidence-based, holistic care to urology patients.
As a practitioner, the post holder is expected to provide safe, effective, and high-quality nursing care to patients and their families, consistently meeting established care standards. Additionally, the post holder will assist in the ongoing development of the Urology OPD service, working alongside the Urology Unit Manager and Lead Nurse.
The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that care provided within the OPD environment is safe and effective, while also supporting staff training and development within the department. Your professional growth will be supported within the Urology Department through local competencies and ongoing development opportunities essential to this role.
Join us, and you’ll enjoy the support of a thoroughly committed team. We welcome informal visits or discussions to explore what we can offer you.
Main duties of the job
To fulfil this Band 5 role, you must be a Registered Adult Nurse with a genuine interest in working in urology. This role supports staff development and offers opportunities for career progression and learning through work-based experiences, including local competencies.
Beckenham Beacon Urology provides a comprehensive general service, including the investigation and treatment of patients with urological conditions such as recurrent urinary tract infections, haematuria, cancer diagnostics, and incontinence.
The successful candidate will chaperone clinicians, assist with procedures (once trained), and support patients during and after these procedures. The Band 5 nurse will also manage nurse-led clinics such as Trial Without Catheter (TWOC), intermittent self-catheterisation, catheter care, and medication administration.
The candidate is expected to maintain a high standard of clinical decision-making when carrying out nursing procedures and must demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills, flexibility, and a proactive approach to nursing. You will need to work independently as well as part of a team, manage a group of patients, and uphold patient confidentiality at all times.
Experience working with both male and female patients, adherence to the nursing process, and the ability to identify opportunities to promote a healthy lifestyle are key expectations. The NMC Code of Professional Conduct must be adhered to at all times.
