NHS Medical & Dental: Salaried GP
ELFT has long been recognised as a centre of excellence for mental and health care, innovation and improvement. So it is a very exciting time for you to come and work for us. Our mission is to make a positive difference to people's lives by improving quality of life for all we serve. Our values are: We Care, We Respect, We are Inclusive – so we are looking for people who live and breathe these qualities when supporting service users and carers, and in their relationships with colleagues in the Trust and our partner organisations.
Job overview
Path 2 Recovery (P2R), part of East London NHS Foundation Trust, is seeking a Salaried GP with an extended role in substance misuse to join our clinically-led, innovative addiction service across Bedford Borough and Central Bedfordshire.
This is a developmental role ideal for a GP (or GP trainee within 3 months of CCT) with experience or a strong interest in substance misuse, who wants to combine hands-on clinical work with service development, outreach, and clinical leadership.
You’ll work within a highly skilled multidisciplinary team delivering evidence-based drug and alcohol treatment, supporting complex patients, advising primary care colleagues on safer prescribing, and helping shape innovative clinical pathways – including GP outreach clinics and specialist services in partnership with acute and mental health teams.
What we offer
· Flexible working (up to 4 sessions per week)
· A supportive, experienced clinical leadership team
· Opportunities for service development, leadership and teaching
· Strong links with primary care, secondary care, mental health and outreach services
· Regular supervision, CPD and appraisal support
If you’re looking for a role where you can make a real impact on population health, develop your leadership skills, and work creatively with some of the most complex and rewarding patient groups in medicine, we’d love to hear from you.
Main duties of the job
Path 2 Recovery (P2R) provides integrated substance misuse treatment services across Bedford Borough and Central Bedfordshire. We work in close partnership with mental health services, primary care, secondary care providers including Bedford and Luton & Dunstable Hospitals, and specialist teams supporting rough sleepers, criminal justice work and hospital liaison. We also offer innovative clinical models including outreach clinics in GP practices for prescribed addictive medication reduction and a specialist liver clinic in partnership with Bedford Hospital.
This cross-county developmental role provides opportunities for professional growth and leadership development for a GP, or GP trainee with confirmed CCT within 3 months of application, who already has skills or experience in substance misuse. The post is for up to 4 sessions (calculated on an hourly pro rata basis) per week, based on service need. The post holder will build strategic relationships with partner organisations and develop the skills and experience to become a clinical leader within the service. The post holder is expected to maintain their generalist clinical skills, including holistic patient assessment and the ability to conduct rapid clinical evaluations.
