Advert Band 8a Operational Lead for NDT (North - Bedford) (1.0 WTE)
We are really pleased to offer an exciting opportunity to join our Neuro-developmental team in Bedfordshire and Luton CAMHS services. We are looking for an experienced clinician (nurse, psychologist or other allied health professional) who is able to take on a senior operational role within a well-established specialist team. Main duties of the job
The CAMHS Neurodevelopmental team (NDT) offers assessments and creative interventions to children and young people who have ASD and other neurodevelopmental problems and/or have learning disabilities. The successful post-holder will be expected to run the local NDT team day-to-day with the support of the Clinical Team Lead for NDT Countywide. They will also allocate new cases to team members as well as offer some assessments and be able to design and deliver effective interventions with children and young people in the Luton and South Bedfordshire area. The successful senior clinician will offer proven experience in the field of working with our client group and will also be able to offer supervision and consultations other staff as well as to families. There will be scope to develop areas of specialist practice and/or research plus the opportunity for further training.
The successful post-holder will directly contribute to the positive working environment within the multi-disciplinary team. As a band 8a senior clinician, the post-holder will hold full professional autonomy and self-management, and will be required to account for their professional practice through appraisal and audit.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The team is part of Bedfordshire CAMHS which is a large, dynamic and successful CAMHs service comprising of 3 emotional and behavioural teams, a LAC team, a CAMHs schools team, a parent-infant psychotherapy team, a paediatric team, a GP team, an adolescent mental health team, a crisis team and an eating disorders service. We also have embedded workers in Early Help, CDC and social care. We offer regular opportunities for staff to undertake individualised CPD, and we provide opportunities for staff wishing to ‘act up’ into more senior roles on occasion.
Bedfordshire CAMHs has a thriving service-user participation group which meets regularly to consider service development initiatives. The successful applicant would have the opportunity to join in a number of quality improvement (QI) projects which can lead to innovations within the Service.

Education, Training and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- A qualification and professional registration in Child Psychotherapy, Clinical Psychology, Family Therapy, Nursing, Social Worker, Speech and Language Therapy or Occupational Therapy
- Clinical Psychology Postgraduate Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) Registration with HPC
- Family Therapy Qualification in appropriate mental health/social welfare profession such as Social Work, Clinical Psychology, Nursing or Counselling Masters or Doctoral level qualification in Systemic Psychotherapy or AFT agreed equivalent UKCP Registered
- Nursing Mental Health Nurse Level 1 (RN3, RNMH in sub part 1 of the NMC Register) ENB 998 or equivalent Relevant post-graduate qualification in Child and Adolescent Mental Health. Substance mis-use or
- Social Worker Registered with Health Care Professionals Council (HCPC)
- Child Psychotherapy Honours degree. Postgraduate Diploma/MA in Psychoanalytical Observational Studies or recognised equivalent. Masters in Psychoanalytical Psychotherapy: Child and Adolescent. Registered member of ACP. equivalent (e.g. ENB 603)
- Speech and language Therapy: Recognised Speech and Language Therapy degree qualification or equivalent Registered Member of Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists
- Occupational Therapy Degree or equivalent Registration with Health Professions Council Evidence of successful completion of courses relevant to area of highly specialist knowledge and skills Training in sensory integration to a minimum of level 1
Desirable criteria
- Training in the National Autism Trainer Programme or related neuro-affirming paradigms
Experience
Essential criteria
- • Significant experience of working with autistic young people or adults within a neuro-affirming service framework.
- • Significant experience of working with young people who have a diagnosed learning disability and their families.
- • Substantial experience of working children and young people presenting in mental health crisis
- • Experience of delivering individual contemporary and evidence based interventions
- • Experienced in provide a high quality of line management and clinical supervision.
Desirable criteria
- • Experience of using time limited, structured approaches to treatment
- • Competence in family work, group work and individual work and behavioural management.
- • Experience of offering consultation to stakeholders eg hospitals, GPs, schools
Skills and Abilities
Essential criteria
- Evidence of well-developed clinical skills and knowledge in CAMHS
- Skilled in emergency and crisis assessments
- Ability to manage a team of staff effectively to ensure resources are adequately managed to meet the needs of the service including developing staffing rotas
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Teaching skills, both in clinical setting and education centres
- Basic Computer skills
Knowledge
Essential criteria
- An in depth and working knowledge of modern relevant theories and frameworks of neurodiversity (monotropism, SPELL for example) and the ability to apply this knowledge to individual and systemic case formulation
- An in depth understanding of the challenges faced by young people who have a learning disability and their families and how effective support can be implemented
- Awareness of current national guidelines and policies in the field of CAMHS
- In depth knowledge of CAMHS issues including assessment and interventions
- Knowledge of The Mental Health Act 1983 (amended 2007) and associated legislation
- A working knowledge of Child Protection Guidelines
Desirable criteria
- Knowledge of development in inter agency partnership
- Knowledge of the Children’s Act and other appropriate legislation
