Bedfordshire Talking Therapies (BTT)

Band 6 - Gateway Worker (RMN or other equivalent Core / Allied Health profession)           

We are looking for a Registered Mental Health Nurse or other equivalent Core / Allied Health profession with Mental Health experience to assist the single point of entry into BTT in ensuring that new referrals into the service are suitably risk assessed and when not suitable are referred to appropriate agencies. You will also be expected to provide support to clinicians with making appropriate referrals to secondary care mental health services and safeguarding teams. You will play a key role in enhancing inter-agency relationships and interface with these services.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will assist the single point of entry into BTT in ensuring that new referrals into the service are suitably risk assessed and when not suitable are referred to appropriate agencies.

The post holder will also be expected to provide support to clinicians with making  appropriate referrals to secondary care mental health services and safeguarding teams.

Playing a key role in enhancing inter-agency relationships and interface, the post holder will be supported, where appropriate, to attend team meetings and deliver collaborative projects/interventions in identified settings as guided by the service’s needs. There will also be opportunities for direct clinical interventions and to provide supervision in the service.

East London NHS Foundation Trust also provides Talking Therapies services in Newham, Tower Hamlets and Digital Service.  The four services work together on joint projects, sharing good practice and opportunities for training.   

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

1. Reviewing professional referrals to the Bedfordshire Talking Therapy to ensure the service is able to meet the needs of the service user.
2. To attend regular interface meetings to discuss cases that historically may have bounced between services to ensure that there is a smooth transition for service users.

Education/ Qualification/ Training

Essential criteria
  • Registered Practitioner: MENTAL HEALTH NURSE (RMN) or other equivalent Core /Allied Health profession (e.g. RNLD OT or Social Worker with extensive secondary care mental health experience or PWP) with at least 1 year post qualification experience.

  • Experience of Liaising with other services regarding incoming and outgoing referrals
  • Ability to meet agreed/specified service targets
  • Ability to manage own caseload and time
  • Demonstrate high standards in written communication
  • Able to write clear reports and letters to referrers

Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Has received training (either formal of through experience) and carried out risk assessments within scope of practice
  • Understanding of issues surrounding clinical risk
  • Able to develop good therapeutic relationships with clients
  • Knowledge of medication used in anxiety and depression and other common mental health problems
  • Health and MH services pathways and  Essential  S/I Page 7 of 7 structures of NHS and relevant settings.
  • Use of clinical data systems, e.g. RiO, IAPTus, EMIS, etc.
