Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Locum Consultant Ophthalmologist within the Paediatric and Adult Strabismus Services. 

This Full time Consultant post offers 8 programmed activities to provide direct clinical care with Paediatrics and Adult Strabismus with 2 SPA's

The timetable will be agreed with the Service Directors at both sites and will be incorporated into the successful applicants contract. The timetable/programme may change with time depending on the specialist expertise of the post holder and the needs of the Service.

 

Main duties of the job

The post holder must be medically qualified and maintain specialist registration and licence to practice. Also required is a completion of at least 12 month post CCT Fellowship

You will need to have experience in the management of Paediatrics and Adult Strabismus patients. Running face to face clinics with a multi disciplinary Team  and operating on Paediatric and Adult Surgical patients.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Moorfields at Bedfordshire Hospital offers a comprehensive service in Paediatric, Adult Extraocular motility, ROP screening and Neuro-Ophthalmology. Paediatric and Strabismus surgery is also undertaken at Bedford. The Service is further supported by the Orthoptists from Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust who provide care in the Unit and in the Community. 

Applicants are invited for a post specialising in Paediatrics and Adult strabismus. The post in Full time [10 sessions] which are split between Bedford [7.5 sessions] and City Road [2.5 sessions] . The weekly Service teaching takes place at City Road and can be accessed remotely. 

The City Road sessions will involve Paediatric A/E and General Paediatric clinics mentoring other  Allied professionals in extended roles

Essential Criteria

Essential criteria
  • FRCOphth/MRCOphth equivalent ophthalmic qualification
  • CCT in Ophthalmology or equivalent ophthalmic training [or be within 6 months of CCT date]
  • Full GMC Registration with a Licence to Practice
  • Be on or eligible for the GMC specialist register or be within 6 months of CCT
Desirable criteria
  • Should of received training in educational supervision as defined by GMC
  • Attended clinical leadership training

  • Extensive experience in the management of all patients with conditions requiring Paediatric and Adult Strabismus management

  • Should of received training in educational supervision as defined by GMC

Training and Knowledge Criteria

  • Completed Higher specialist Training in Ophthalmology
  • Fellowship Training
  • Extensive knowledge of Paediatric and Adult Strabismus conditions
  • Knowledge in clinical supervision and Training as defined by the GMC
Desirable criteria
  • Should of received training in educational supervision as defined by GMC
  • Attended clinical leadership training
