Our Band 5 nurses are all given the opportunity to undertake a development pathway, where a clear competency framework is set to aid your professional development. This pathway will focus on both clinical and personal skills to enable your to apply for more senior positions once your competencies have been met.

Main duties of the job
As a registered nurse you will provide high quality primary care services and a range of specialist interventions for offenders. At HMP Ashfield, we deliver a nurse-led integrated primary care service and operate a specialist practice-based clinical model of care.
You will be delivering high quality clinical care within the Integrated Healthcare Service for the prison, demonstrating robust expert clinical skills and providing evidence-based nursing practice to those in prison.
Our registered nurses carry out a range of duties including:
· Reception screening,
· Emergency response
· Long term conditions management
· Planned care (e.g. running clinics)
· Enhanced assessment and diagnostic intervention services
· Health promotion activities

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Provide high-quality primary care and specialist interventions for offenders in a nurse-led, integrated service.
- Deliver robust clinical care, demonstrating expert skills and evidence- based nursing practice.

- Planned care (e.g., running clinics, administering medication)
- Enhanced assessment and diagnostic services
- Health promotion activities
- Act as first responder to medical emergencies until additional help arrives.
- Navigate the prison environment and security elements.
Role Specific Requirements:
- The role demands clinical expertise, autonomy, and a proactive approach to care.
- There is a strong emphasis on integrated, multidisciplinary teamwork and evidence-based practice.
- The position involves both direct patient care and broader responsibilities in service development, health promotion, and collaboration.
Custodial Responsibilities
- Assume personal responsibility for the security of issued keys.
- Carry and use correctly a prison issued radio and security keys.
- Understand and comply with prison orders, procedures, and instructions in your area of work.
- Comply with all security requirements.
- Respond to any situation or circumstance that might indicate a threat to the security of the establishment or to the safety of an individual, completing Incident, Security, Injury, or other reports as appropriate.
- Report breaches of order and discipline including reporting and recording untoward incidents according to local protocol.
- Contribute to effective risk assessment and management procedures
IMPORTANT INFORMATION, PLEASE READ:
All applicants must be willing to undertake National Security Vetting in order to work in a Prison Setting. This will be completed as part of the pre-employment checks through Oxleas and the prison vetting team.
You will need to provide:
Proof of right to work documentation
Proof of ID, needs to include 1 photographic ID
Proof of address documentation
Non-UK passport holders will need to have correct documentation (right to work in the UK) and a Home office Share code.
Address History:
5 years address history will be needed.
Applicants that are not UK Passport holders who provide less than 5 years UK address history will need to provide a Police Certificate which must be in English from where they resided previously.
Applicants who are UK Passport holders who have lived abroad for a period of more than six months during the last three years will need to provide a certificate of good conduct or an overseas police check in English from the countries resided in or visited.
