Job overview
We are seeking an exceptional individuals with either a background in mental health/general/learning disability or midwifery or with social work experience, to support the expansion of the clinical vulnerabilities team at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The postholder will play a pivotal role in the care and support of individuals who may be at risk of abuse, in addition to supporting the overarching strategy to facilitate a trauma informed approach within the organisation.
This is an exciting opportunity, to work in a new and developing service, working closely with the Director of Nursing for Safeguarding and Vulnerable people, our newly appointed Lead Nurse for Vulnerabilities, Associate Director of Nursing for Mental Health and other senior safeguarding/vulnerability leads, the postholder will collaborate closely with operational teams and support the delivery of a coherent trauma informed vulnerabilities service across all sites within the Trust.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- To support the ongoing development of the vulnerability service, ensuring all services are responsive, innovative, and provided to the highest possible standards, reducing any variation in quality
- To provide support and advice to staff in clinical areas providing care, in relation to all aspects of vulnerability, in collaboration with senior subject matter experts, support the advocacy service provided by the clinical vulnerabilities team.· Work collaboratively with key partners and stakeholders in the implementation of pathway improvements for patients at increased risk of vulnerability
- To support in the delivery of specific projects and programmes, engaging with stakeholders and clinical colleagues. Projects will relate to specific area of expertise, however, may also relate to any aspect of vulnerability within the portfolio (including but not limited to, violence reduction and restrictive practice, trauma informed care, mental health, safeguarding, social work, end of life care
- To identify issues and problem solve, support the implementation of lasting solutions in conjunction with clinical colleagues and other teams across safeguarding, vulnerability and mental health provider
- Support with the assessment and implementation of trauma informed approaches across the Trust, in line with National Guidance and provide expert nursing advice and support across the organisation.
Person specification
Education and Qualifications
Essential criteria
- NMC Registered Nurse/Midwife or Registration with Social Work England
- Advanced qualification relevant to area of practice
- Masters level qualification or evidence of post graduate study/willingness to work towards Masters.
Desirable criteria

Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
- Independent working/experience of managing own caseload
- Extensive experience of working within a hospital setting in the field of mental health, learning disabilities, safeguarding or social work.
- Good knowledge of Safeguarding Adults and Children’s practice
- Experience in caring for patients and families with physical/long term health conditions, and mental health conditions
- Experience in working with people at risk of abuse or experiencing abuse
- A working knowledge of relevant legislation including Mental Capacity Act 2005, Human Rights Act 1998, Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards 2007, Care Act 2014, Modern Slavery Act 2015 and Counter Terrorism and Security Act 2015
Desirable criteria
- Insight into budgetary management and ability to demonstrate the need to manage a budget within financial limit, including reducing costs, monitoring, and determining corrective actions.
Skills and Competencies
Essential criteria
- An ability to form effective working relationships with patients and their families and to engage in safety planning, risk management.
- Ability to evaluate complex psychosocial needs of patients and those close to them
- Ability to provide and receive highly complex, sensitive and contentious information, both verbally and written
- To have experience in the delivery of duty systems and work autonomously, based on risk, through effective triage and decision making
- IT skills, for database and recording of activity
