We have an exciting opportunity for a Specialist Grade in Anaesthetics to join our team

Main duties of the job

Principle Duties of the Post:

Role summary:
1. To actively engage and participate in the delivery of safe and effective Anaesthetic services within the Trust (General and regional anaesthesia, and Procedural sedation, independently for all patients)

2. As well as Perioperative sessions the successful candidate will be expected to provide  independent anaesthetic sessions in Obstetrics,  General Surgery ,Urology  and Orthopaedic surgery.

3. To actively participate in clinical governance and quality improvement activities.

4. To actively participate in the teaching, training and supervision of anaesthetic resident doctors and medical students.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • The principal duty is to provide a comprehensive clinical service to patients:
    . To always, comply with the GMC’s guidance on ‘Good Medical Practice’ as amended or substituted from time to time.
    . To ensure that patient confidentiality is always maintained.
    . To undertake duties as defined within the attached job plan in so far as practicable and in agreement with your Clinical Director.
    . To be responsible and managerially accountable for the reasonable and effective use of Trust resources that you use and influence, and professionally accountable to the Medical Director.
    . On commencement to ensure personal attendance at the Trust’s corporate Induction (or arranged Consultant Induction).
     To participate in the Trust’s Statutory & Mandatory training programme.
    . To be responsible for the Clinical Management of in and outpatients under your care.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Full registration and a License to Practice with the General Medical Council
  • Minimum of 12 years medical experience since primary medical qualification
  • Minimum of 6 years as SAS grade or equivalent in anaesthesia
  • Minimum of 3 years experience at senior obstetric anesthetic level
  • Post-graduate professional qualification in anaesthesia
Desirable criteria
  • Demonstrated ability to provide safe and effective immediate care for critically ill patients of all ages

Clinical Experience

Essential criteria
  • Broad range of experience of anaesthesia for elective, emergency surgery for patients of all ages
  • High risk obstetric experience in the last 5 years
  • Demonstrates ability to manage patients with complex needs whilst remaining aware of own limitations
  • Communicates effectively with patients, relatives and carers, placing them at the centre of the care pathway
  • Ability to lead resuscitation teams and safely transfer critically ill patients
  • Previous experience of working in the NHS
Desirable criteria
  • Advanced airway management skills

Education and Training

Essential criteria
  • Meets the requirements of a sessional supervisor, as defined by the RCOA
  • Critically assesses learning requirements for self and others
  • Evaluates, reflects and acts on the effectiveness of education and learning
  • Creates effective peri operative learning opportunities for medical and para-medical colleagues
Desirable criteria
  • Meets the requirements of a Clinical/ Educational Supervisor, as defined by the GMC

Research

Essential criteria
  • Keeps up-to –date with current research and best practice
  • Critically appraises and understands the relevance of research evidence in anaesthesia
Desirable criteria
  • Presentations at regional and national meetings
  • Presentations at regional and national meetings
