Main duties of the job
Speech and Language Therapy assistants are core to the efficient service delivery that we provide to children, young people and their families.
As a Speech and Language Therapy assistant in our service, you will support the delivery of care to children, young people and their families.
You will be working within our well-established, supportive and diverse team. You will be supporting with delivering groups, interventions and training to families and education staff, as well supporting with resources and administration tasks. There may also be opportunities to work in other areas of the service as needed. We are an innovative service that constantly adapts to meet the needs of our service users.

Working for our organisation
Starting with NELFT
NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop-in sessions focusing on engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.
Probationary Period
This post will be subject to a probationary period. Internal applicants are exempt from the probationary period (unless you are an internal applicant currently part way through a probationary period or currently a bank member of staff).
High-Cost Area Supplement
This post also attracts payment for High-Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum payment of £4,714 and a maximum payment of £5,941) pro rata for part time staff.

We ask that applicants have at least 3 years experience of working with children within a nursery, pre-school or school setting and a knowledge of planning and target setting for speech and language.

Essential criteria
- Qualification relevant to working with pre school and/or school age children at or equivalent to NVQ level 3 or BTEC with children
- Demonstrates effective communication skills
- In-service training, short courses and work experience
- Appropriate level of literacy and numeracy - demonstrated in written application

- Experience of carrying out speech and language programmes
- Ability to prioritise own workload
