Job overview

The Royal Marsden Hospital is Europe's largest Oncology centre with sites in Chelsea and Sutton. The Department of Nuclear Medicine, PET/CT and Radioisotope Therapy  is currently inviting  enthusiastic applicants, well-motivated, capable and organised individuals to join our friendly and dynamic team. The successful candidate must be an individual with a friendly, welcoming attitude and have excellent administration skills with an eye for detail. The candidate will undertake a key role in delivery of our Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT service.

Applicants would benefit from experience in a hospital or healthcare environment and must be able to work independently and accurately under pressure to meet deadlines. The successful candidate must be able to interact with staff and patients in a polite and confident manner, and will take an ongoing, proactive role in improving the service of our Department. There will be a need to demonstrate a commitment to professional development, an enthusiasm for their work and show a keen interest in the future of both their profession and the Diagnostic Imaging Service. They will be expected to support the service in continuing to maintain and develop the highest standards of imaging.

Main duties of the job

1.1.    The post holder is an integral member of the Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT Department. The post holder will coordinate all administrative aspects of the Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT Services including patient communication, reception, scheduling and clerical duties.
1.2.    Ensuring that appointments are scheduled in an efficient and timely manner, so that results can be made available to fit with the patient’s pathway. The post holder will also be required to oversee the retrieval of patients’ imaging and reports from external Trusts where required.
1.3.    The post holder will also provide cover for the Radiology/Nuclear Medicine PET/CT Chelsea reception desk and will be required to handle enquiries from patients, their carers and Trust and non-Trust staff in person or by telephone/post.
1.4.    The post-holder will liaise with a variety of staff throughout the Trust. This will predominantly involve Chelsea Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT staff as well as staff within Diagnostic Imaging. In addition, there will be contact with Consultants and their secretaries throughout the Trust and other Health Services.

2.1    Appointments, Scheduling and Capacity Management
2.1.1    To deal with all Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT referrals from clinicians, ensuring that the appointment is scheduled within an appropriate clinical time frame taking into account clinical priority and cancer waiting times targets.
2.1.2    To liaise directly with the patient regarding their appointment, either verbally or in writing, providing information and reassurance and managing patient expectations around the scanning experience.
2.1.3    To be responsible for ensuring that patients are given appointment letters and patient information sheets where relevant.
2.1.4    When necessary, to liaise with the clinical, technical or nursing staff to prioritise the scheduling of new referrals.
2.1.5    To liaise with senior Nuclear Medicine / PET staff when arranging non-standard investigations.
