Job overview

The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust is the largest comprehensive cancer centre in Europe with a reputation for high quality patient care, research, development and education. The Projects and Estates Department plays an instrumental role within the Trust by managing critical infrastructure, maintenance, and projects across its entire estate which directly impacts on frontline clinical care, research, infection prevention and control and energy efficiency. We are looking for a committed, highly self-motivated Service Manager, to join the Estates Team in Cheslea and to take ownership for actively embracing the responsibilities of this post as detailed in the Job Description and Person Specification. This role is an exciting opportunity to join our Estates team and be part of our continued development and success, making a real difference to patients and staff.                                                                                            

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work closely with the Head of Engineering. This position will be based on our Chelse site, the role encompasses managing operational maintenance and budgets across the estate, driving increased productivity from the in-house service team and Estates Officers /Technicians, overseeing contracted services and managing projects / operational initiatives. As a key leadership role within Estates Operations the post holder will work closely with clinical & other user departments and adapting the estates service and processes.

The Estates Department is responsible for providing Estates Services encompassing operations and maintenance of buildings, plant, building services and infrastructure and external grounds used by the Trust. This includes managing and providing a safe, NHS compliant, resilient and competent Estates service which protects the Trust from business continuity risks and has effective plans for disaster recovery.

Person specification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Operations, maintenance and works /projects on large sites with extended infrastructure and critical facilities
  • Fault findings and operation and maintenance of plant and infrastructure
  • Experienced in working to deadlines
  • Complying with Health & Safety regulations and codes of practice
  • Experienced in working in a demand driven service
  • Proficient in the use of hand tools and machinery
  • Working safely and have a sound knowledge of Health and Safety legislation
Desirable criteria
  • Supervision of multi- disciplinary team in healthcare premises
  • Experience of working in a large organisation
  • Experienced in issuing permits to work

Skills Abilities/knowledge

Essential criteria
  • • Knowledge in commercial/ industrial engineering maintenance.
  • • Able to diagnose faults in complicated engineering and building plant and equipment.
  • • Demonstrable CPD in engineering and management of people
  • • Team leadership and team building and service change
  • • Supervision of multidisciplinary staff, undertaking appraisals and development of staff
  • • Highly organised and good time management
  • • Ability to work with minimum of guidance
  • • Logical and systematic approach to work tasks.
  • • Excellent written and oral communication
  • • Ability to identify solutions to estates and engineering issues and implement them within time and budget
  • • Computer literate with the current operating system, current office software and knowledge of computer aided design (CAD)
