Job overview

The Gynaecological Cancer Unit at the Royal Marsden is world renowned for excellence in clinical care and clinical research. It is comprised of multidisciplinary teams of medical oncologists, clinical oncologists, surgeons, palliative care physicians, clinician scientists, specialist nurses, dieticians, research nurses, trial coordinators, data managers and biological specimen coordinators. They have state-of-the-art facilities for all investigations and treatments utilizing expert histopathology, radiology and nuclear medicine services, including MRI and PET/CT.

Main duties of the job

The job will allow the successful candidate to undertake focused work in the area of gynaecological oncology surgical research.

The role includes attending the multidisciplinary team meetings and relevant out-patient clinics to highlight potential participants to be recruited to trials, consenting patients, follow-up patients participating in trials and other research related duties.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MRCOG part 1 and 2

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Experience in Gynaecological oncology
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in chemotherapy and/or radiotherapy; ATSM in gynaecological oncology

Training Expected

Essential criteria
  • It is anticipated that the appointee will have completed ST 5 or more

Management / Audit Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of clinical audit and research
Desirable criteria
  • Published paper

  • Good leadership skills
  • Ability to communicate with clarity and intelligently in written and spoken English; ability to build rapport, listen, persuade/ negotiate with colleagues, patients, relatives, GPs, nurses and other agencies.
