Acute Oncology/SACT ANP (Advanced Nurse Practitioner)

NHS AfC: Band 8a

Trosolwg o'r swydd

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) in Acute Oncology Service (AOS) and Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatment (SACT) to join our team. With support from experienced nursing and medical mentors, the postholder will become part of the established ANP/Specialist Doctor team in the Private Patient MDU across Chelsea and Cavendish Square, working autonomously in an extended clinical role.

This dynamic role involves advanced physical assessments of patients receiving SACT in day care, as well as those presenting acutely with oncological complications such as neutropenic sepsis, metastatic spinal cord compression, and disease-related emergencies. The ANP will undertake pre-treatment reviews, history-taking, clinical examinations, arrange and interpret investigations (e.g. bloods, imaging), and prescribe SACT and supportive treatments.

Within the AOS remit, the ANP will play a pivotal role in the early recognition and management of acute deterioration, providing timely interventions to avoid unplanned hospital admissions and support safe discharge planning. The role is central to improving patient outcomes through rapid assessment and enhanced continuity of care.

You’ll be expected to work with a high level of autonomy and clinical decision-making within agreed protocols.

Prif ddyletswyddau'r swydd

The Royal Marsden operates across two main centres—Chelsea and Sutton—with a Medical Day Unit at Kingston Hospital and a Private Diagnostics and Treatment Facility at Cavendish Square. This post covers the Acute Oncology Service (AOS) at the Chelsea site and Systemic Anti-Cancer Treatment (SACT) services at Cavendish Square.

Supported by experienced nursing and medical mentors, the ANP will join the established ANP/Specialist Doctor team in the Private Patient Medical Day Units (PPMDU), working autonomously across both sites in an extended clinical role.

Key responsibilities include providing visible clinical leadership to nursing teams, ensuring high standards of care through expert practice. The ANP will assess patients receiving SACT and supportive therapies, using advanced clinical decision-making to guide treatment planning. They will also identify, assess, and manage patients with complications or toxicities related to SACT or radiotherapy.

The role includes recognising and responding to unwell or deteriorating patients, delivering prompt interventions, and coordinating safe transfers. The postholder will also lead the delivery of a responsive and high-quality Acute Oncology Service in line with national AOS measures, ensuring timely management of oncological emergencies such as neutropenic sepsis, MSCC, and malignant effusions.
