Job overview
The Royal Marsden Private care breast team are looking for an experienced, dynamic nurse who is passionate about the patient experience and the delivery of quality patient-focused care, to
join as a Band 7 Secondary, Clinical Nurse Specialist. This post is a maternity cover until November 2026, fixed term.
The post involves acting as a keyworker to patients diagnosed with primary and metastatic breast cancer and providing support and information throughout their cancer pathway as well as participation in service development. Successful candidates will have post registration, with previous experience in breast surgery, oncology and ideally, having some palliative care knowledge and experience in managing patients with advancing disease. Advanced communication skills are essential.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be expected to liaise appropriately with all key members of the multi-disciplinary team and service users related to the specialty. In addition, the post holder will be required to liaise with their peers across the Trust, the divisional management team, and appropriate corporate directorates and teams. The post holder will be expected to liaise with colleagues external to the Trust and national networks as appropriate to the specialty.
To provide professional and clinical leadership and expertise in the care of the patient with breast cancer acting as a resource to provide information and support to patients, carers and staff.
To take responsibility for own evidence-based practice and implement and add to the body of knowledge that supports nursing practice within Breast cancer care
To liaise effectively with all members of the multi-disciplinary health care team to achieve a synchronised specialist service.
To provide informal and formal teaching, e.g. academic courses provided by the School of Nursing.

In collaboration with the existing Clinical Nurse Specialists, formulate and/or revise relevant policies and regularly review these following changes/implementations. To work within the procedures and policies of the Trust.
Work closely with members of the MDT and CNS team to deliver personalised evidence-based care. Provision of specialist, high quality, expert nursing care and support for patients with a diagnosis of breast cancer. To act as a resource for patients and the clinical team by the provision of comprehensive specialist advice, information, teaching and training both within RMH and externally regarding breast cancer.
To support and signpost patients to appropriate services. Undertake a full specialist nursing assessment to identify the specific needs of the above patient groups and their families/carers to include the Holistic Needs assessment. Demonstrate expert knowledge and understanding
of breast cancer to allow collaboration with medical colleagues to ensure that patients and their families are fully informed and understand proposed patient investigations and treatments.
