We have an exciting opportunity for a Speech and Language Therapist to work with adults with learning disabilities as part of the integrated Barnet Learning Disabilities Service.
The successful candidate will work with multidisciplinary colleagues to support clients in a range of community settings. This is an opportunity to develop clinical knowledge and skills within a supportive team.
Main duties of the job
We welcome applications from qualified Speech and Language Therapists who have an interest in working with adults with learning disabilities. We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic therapist who can demonstrate a person centred approach, with good organisational and interpersonal skills.
You will work closely with other members of the multidisciplinary team and be supported by Senior Speech and Language Therapists. We are committed to personal and professional development through regular supervision and access to training.

Education/Qualification
Essential criteria
- First degree and Licence to Practise from the Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists
- Current registered membership of HCPC and RCSLT
Experience
Essential criteria
- Working with people with a wide range of communication difficulties during training.
- Working collaboratively within multidisciplinary settings, during training
- Working with colleagues in other agencies, in teams, with carers and relatives during training
Desirable criteria
- Working with adults with learning disabilities during training
- Training others
Skills & Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Knowledge of up-to-date assessment and interventions for adults with wide ranging communication difficulties
- Holistic view of communication problems
- Awareness of the issues of supporting carers
- Knowledge of the white paper Valuing People and the impact it will have on future care
- Knowledge of position paper on LD and its impact on SLT
Desirable criteria
- Specific interventions for people with Learning Disabilities.
- Knowledge and experience of delivering a service within the guidelines of equal opportunities
- Knowledge of how clinical governance influences practice.
