Chaplain

Band 6

West London NHS Trust  provides a full range of mental health, community  and physical healthcare services for children, adults and older people living in the London boroughs of Ealing, Hammersmith & Fulham and Hounslow.

We also provide some specialist services that are commissioned regionally, such as our medium secure services; and nationally, such as the Cassel Hospital for people with complex and severe personality disorder and our high secure services at Broadmoor Hospital.

Job overview

West London NHS Trust is seeking to recruit a part-time Muslim Chaplain to join our staff. We are looking for a mental healthcare chaplain (preferably with both forensic and local services experience) to join a multi-faith and multi-denominational team, serving a mixed population, providing high quality spiritual, religious and pastoral care to patients, carers, visitors and staff.

The post holder will be an Imam or an accredited/licensed religious leader from within the Islamic tradition, with a minimum of three years post- qualification/accreditation experience of pastoral care. Previous experience of healthcare chaplaincy is a requirement for this post and a willingness to work as part of a multi-faith team amongst a religiously diverse population is essential.

The successful applicant will have a good understanding of the varying religious and spiritual needs of Muslim patients and Muslim staff and their relationship to health issues. They will also be required to possess good information and computer technology skills i.e. Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel & PowerPoint well. They should also be registered (or able to become registered) as a chaplain with the Council of Professional Chaplains and Pastoral Carers.

The appointee will be based within our High Secure Services at Broadmoor Hospital but there may be a requirement to work on any site of the Trust. Being able to work some of the hours on a Friday is essential for the provision and delivery of Jummah prayer.

Main duties of the job

To take lead responsibility for the provision and delivery of high quality Muslim spiritual, religious and pastoral care, including facilitating Jummah prayer.

To work collaboratively within a multi-faith and diverse team to meet the spiritual and pastoral needs of patients, carers and staff.

To work therapeutically with patients on a one-to-one basis, alongside clinical and multi-professional teams.

Maintain a high standard of chaplaincy provision supported by regular clinical supervision and reflective practice.
