An exciting opportunity has arisen within Croydon Health Services NHS Trust for experienced band 7 specialist nurse role for the endometriosis and gynaecology service.

Croydon Health Services NHS Trust strives to be at the forefront of responsive and dynamic service provision for patients referred to the gynaecology and endometriosis service, which has a vision for providing patient centred care and effective health care for all.

The purpose of this role is for the post holder to be responsible for the delivery of care for women and their families within women’s health. The post holder will be able to undertake a holistic approach to the assessment, diagnosis and management of patients referred to the gynaecology and endometriosis service. Working closely with other health care professionals from the primary and secondary care settings.

The post holder will work in collaboration with professionals in both hospital and community settings to give appropriate specialist advice, support and education in relation to all aspects of endometriosis and related issues. This is to ensure patients, and their families receive sound clinical research-based care and have access to the necessary service. 

Main duties of the job

The Nurse Specialist Gynaecology is an expert practitioner who, at a  senior level, leads on and facilitates the provision of high quality, specialist nursing care to women seen within the gynaecology service at CUH, with a specialist interest in Endometriosis and Benign Gynaecology.

To have responsibility for own patient caseload, ensuring that women have a research-based plan of care which reflects assessments, diagnostic’s undertaken and recommendations for ongoing care.

The Nurse Specialist will provide diagnostics, treatment, support and advice to women and their families attending the Trust, either as an inpatient or outpatient.

The post holder will also act as a resource to other professionals on gynaecology and associated treatments and issues. The role encompasses clinical, consultative, teaching, leadership, and research and audit function.

To run a nurse led clinic, take detailed history of symptoms, request / carry out investigations (blood tests, pelvic ultrasound and M.R.I. scans)

To receive direct new referrals to the clinic and follow up patients as required

Education

Essential criteria
  • Registered with NMC
  • Independent Prescriber or willingness to undertake
  • Mentorship qualification or recognised equivalent, i.e. ENB 998
  • Gynaecology course/Women’s health related subject or willing to undertake.
  • Counselling course or willingness to undertake
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in facilitating reflection and clinical supervision
  • Ability to adapt to change within working situation
  • Advanced Practice/Physical Assessment qualification
  • Masters in Women's Health or working towards
  • Member of British Society for Gynaecology Endoscopy

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Extensive experience in Gynaecology at band 6
  • Experience of working in partnership with clients and colleagues, providing specialist advice as required.
  • Experience of workforce planning
  • Evidence of adaptability to change
Desirable criteria
  • Extended skills e.g. counselling
  • Complaints Management
  • Previous experience of involvement with clinical audit
