Job overview
Principal Pharmacist
The post holder is responsible for leading, developing, delivering and evaluating clinical services under the IAC directorate (including Acute Medicine & ED, Cardiology, Respiratory, Gastroenterology, Endocrinology and Diabetes).
The post holder is also responsible for supporting the Associate Chief Pharmacist in managing the clinical pharmacy service to Croydon University Hospital, deputising for them and representing them at local, regional meetings or ICB meetings when necessary.

Main duties of the job
1.0 Specialist Clinical Services
The post holder will:
- Provide expert clinical pharmacy service to all staff and patients within the IAC directorate
- Act as a role model and clinical expert in a defined pharmacy field
Responsible for education and training in medicines management for the multi-disciplinary teams in these areas - Provide effective clinical governance to manage risk and embed clinical audit practices to improve safety and quality of services provided
- Responsible for developing initiatives and guidelines to ensure safe and cost effective use of medicines in these areas
- Deliver a highly specialised clinical pharmacy service to promote the safe, rational and cost-effective use of medicines, through personal practice and the training of other staff.
- They will be supported by Band 8 lead pharmacist(s) and rotational Band 6 & 7 Pharmacist(s) who will lead the day-to-day delivery of the team. The post holder will provide a high quality clinical pharmacy
service which meets the needs of patients and healthcare professionals within and associated with the Trust. - They will develop and implement medicine management systems concerned with IAC services throughout CHS, and will act as the main point of contact between the directorate and Pharmacy.
Responsible for the clinical pharmacy service for Integrated Adult Care Directorate, ensuring the provision of a safe, effective, economic and comprehensive pharmaceutical service

CUH provides more than 100 specialist services and is home to the borough’s only Emergency Department and 24/7 maternity services, including a labour ward, midwifery-led birth centre and the Crocus home birthing team.
Purley War Memorial Hospital (PWMH) in the south of the borough offers outpatient care, including diagnostic services, physiotherapy and ophthalmology services run by Moorfields Eye Hospital, alongside an onsite GP surgery.
Our experienced district nursing teams, Allied Health Professionals and community matrons look after for people of all ages across Croydon and our Children’s Hospital at Home cares for children with long-term conditions without them having to come to hospital.
