Job overview

We are seeking a consultant colleague with expertise in neonatology that could augment the current provision of services within the department. The successful applicant should have extensive experience of neonatology evidenced by a certificate of neonatal subspecialty training, SPIN module in neonatology or evidence of equivalent experience.

The successful candidate is expected to provide a strong visible presence across the organisation, be a role model of good leadership and effective communication at individual, team, directorate and organisation level. He/ she is expected to help shape the development of the department and to share the long term vision for a safe and sustainable service, in line with the current developments.

Main duties of the job

> Where specified, the Consultant is expected to provide continuity of care for all the patients coming through the neonatal service over their attending weeks. They provide support and are available for all neonatal emergencies during the specified time period.

> The post holder is expected to take on and lead in a special interest to augment those already provided within the Department.

> They are required to cover General Paediatrics and Paediatric Emergency Department when on call in the evening and over weekends, and should cover be required during normal working hours.

>The Consultant would do at least two outpatient clinics per week during non-attending weeks to include neonatal follow-up clinics and general paediatric clinics as outlined below.

Working for our organisation

Croydon borough is the largest (by population) in London. The population is diverse, with a mixed population and younger than average population. Most local population statistics present a similarly mixed picture with pockets of affluence as well as pockets of poverty. This diversity in the local population translates into a high level of diversity of Paediatric medicine practiced in the hospital setting. It makes Croydon University Hospital an attractive place to work for a Paediatrician looking to
practice the fullest range of Paediatric skills.

Croydon Health Services NHS Trust has a commitment to support the care of children and young people from the local population and support the service development of the Paediatric department as one of
the key services provided by the trust. In line with this policy community and acute Paediatric services were both brought into the newly formed Integrated Women, Children & Sexual Health directorate in
2012.
