Speech and Language Therapist Band 5
We are looking for a full time, Band 5 Speech and Language Therapist to join the Adult Acute Speech and Language Therapy within Croydon Health Services NHS Trust on a fixed term contract. An exciting opportunity as a result of recent team changes.
The post is static in the acute service in Croydon University Hospital covering all medical, elderly care and surgical wards including Intensive Care. There will be raining and support to develop full dysphagia competencies . We have FEES and VF service.
The job will require you to carry an appropriate caseload across the Acute environment and to assess, diagnose, treat and discharge clients referred with communication and swallowing
difficulties
To work as a member of the team, to provide an efficient, effective and co-ordinated Speech and Language Therapy Service.

Main duties of the job
1. To provide a high quality speech and language therapy service to adults in hospital.
2. To manage and prioritise a defined caseload independently.
3. To assess and diagnose communication and swallowing disorders and make appropriate clinical decisions, including differential diagnosis, following assessment.
4. To be able to reflect on all aspects of the adult’s communication and to identify appropriate strategies to enhance communicative effectiveness.
5. To communicate complex and sensitive condition related information from assessment to clients, carers, families and members of the multi-disciplinary team/other professonals
6. To accurately document and maintain high standard of clinical notes.

- • Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree Qualification
- HCPC registered or in application
Knowledge and Understanding
Essential criteria
- • Knowledge of national policies and procedures (relevant to the client group)
- Knowledge of assessment tools relevant to the client group
- Understanding of the principles of clinical governance / audit
- Understanding of standards of record keeping
Experience
Essential criteria
- • Relevant experience at undergraduate /post graduate level
Skills

- Excellent interpersonal skills – including observation, listening and empathy skills
