Job overview

Speech and Language Therapy Assistant

The post holder will work as a member of the Integrated Neuro Therapy team on the Stroke Unit at Croydon University Hospital, assisting the Speech and language therapists in the delivery of Therapy. They will undertake duties allocated to them by a registered therapist. The post holder will work with patients individually and in a group setting. The post holder will work with adults who have had a stroke and often have complex needs.

The post holder may be required to assist other therapists on the Stroke unit and work in other settings depending on the service needs across the Integrated neuro therapy service.

Main duties of the job

To carry own caseload of patients, as delegated by the Speech and language Therapists. To deliver the therapy programme, as prescribed by the Therapists, taking into account changes in the patients’ health and feedback to the responsible therapist. These may be delivered individually or in group sessions. This will include following a programme given by the Speech and Language Therapist  concerning goals for communication and swallowing difficulties.The post holder will be expected to progress/modify treatment to meet the rehabilitation needs of each individual, using skills gained through experience and relevant training and within agreed competencies.
