Croydon CAMHS is pleased to offer an exciting a CAMHS practitioner who would like to further develop their skills in Community CAMHS referral management and clinical skills working with children & young people with a range of complex mental health and neuropsychiatric difficulties, presenting in crisis.

The post is split between the Croydon Emotional Wellbeing and Mental Health Single Point of Contact (EWMH SPOC) and the Croydon CAMHS Crisis Team.

The successful candidate will have a first level nursing qualification / registration RMN, RSCN or HV or first level qualification in OT, clinical or counselling psychology, systemic psychotherapy, social work, or equivalent in art, play, drama or music therapy. All applications will require professional registration

with a statutory body: the Nursing Midwifery Council, General Social Care Council, UK Council for Psychotherapy or Health & Care Professional's Council.

Duties will include processing of referrals, triage assessments for children and young people with emotional wellbeing and / or mental health needs, making appropriate referral recommendations as well as the provision of advice, education and support to service users and their carers or family members.

In addition, the successful candidate will offer Crisis assessments, risk management and discharge planning for CYP presenting with mental health crisis via Croydon University Hospital A&E department. Knowledge of and skills in working with young people with acute mental health needs and/or a range of complex neuropsychiatric disorders is essential for this post.

South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust (SLaM) provide the widest range of NHS mental health services in the UK as well as substance misuse services for people who are addicted to drugs and alcohol. We work closely with the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience (IoPPN), King's College London and are part of King's Health Partners Academic Health Sciences Centre. There are very few organisations in the world that have such wide-ranging capabilities working with mental illness. Our scope is unique because it is built on three major foundations: care and treatment, science and research, and training.

The post holder will join the Croydon CAMHS Crisis Team and the Emotional Well-being & Mental Health Single Point of Contact (EWMH SPOC).

Within the Croydon CAMHS Crisis Team, the post-holder will assess and manage young people presenting at Croydon University Hospital in mental health crisis and their families, carers, and related professionals. To co-ordinate and deliver discharge planning and follow-up appointments alongside CAMHS colleagues for individualised care of adolescents and their families, ensuring high standards of practice in accordance with national guidelines and Trust policy.

 

Within the Emotional Well-being & Mental Health Single Point of Contact (EWMH SPOC) the post-holder will support the management of referrals, for children, young people and their families with a range of mental health and neuropsychiatric disorders. The post-holder will risk assess referrals and make care contacts with children, young people and their families to ensure the referral is processed through the most appropriate care pathway. 

In addition to the above, the post holder will work with the multidisciplinary teams, under supervision of the team leader and relevant clinical supervisor.

·       To contribute to enabling other staff, service users and carers from diverse backgrounds to flourish by working to create a psychologically safe environment.

·       To provide clinical supervision and consultation as appropriate.

·       To undertake service evaluation, audit and research.

·       To work as an autonomous professional within registry body guidelines and codes of conduct, and guided by the policies and procedures of the service, taking responsibility for own work including treatment and discharge decisions with support of clinical supervisor.

  • Experience that supports working with, and addressing issues of, diversity within local communities.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and skilfully, both verbally and in writing.
