Working for our organisation
Oxleas offers a wide range of NHS healthcare services to people in community and secure environment settings. Our services include community health care such as district nursing and speech and language therapy, care for people with learning disabilities and mental health care such as psychiatry, nursing and therapies. We manage hospital sites including Queen Mary’s Hospital, Sidcup and Memorial Hospital, Woolwich, as well as the Bracton Centre, our medium secure unit for people with mental health needs. Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Respond to all inpatient admissions of smokers
- To assess inpatients tobacco dependence, devise a treatment plan and ensure tobacco dependence care is given throughout the inpatient stay and after discharge
- Provide effective stop smoking support for inpatients and staff of the acute trust who want to stop smoking.
- Ensure a range of services are available in the Trust to meet different needs and preferences
- Develop expertise in effective treatment programmes for people with a range of smoking related health conditions
- Support the Very brief Advice (VBA) training programme to promote a systematic, proactive approach to stopping smoking across the Trust
- Offer support to all members of the multi-disciplinary team
- Support the implementation of policies and protocols for managing nicotine withdrawal for in-patients and access to medication

Professional registration
Essential criteria
- appropriate professional registration e.g. nursing, psychology, allied health professional
Experience
Essential criteria
- Substantial experience of delivering effective stop smoking interventions on a one to one or group basis
- Substantial experience of advising use of stop smoking medications for people with complex health conditions
- Experience of delivering initiatives which involve partnership work across agencies and professions
- Experience of motivational interviewing
