Job overview

We are recruiting for a Band 2 Pharmacy Assistant post 37.5 hours per week (fixed term, 12 month post)

To undertake, under the direction of pharmacists and technicians, duties that ensure the efficient running of the dispensary.  These include, dispensing, supply of stock medicines, processing orders, purchasing, return and disposal of medicines and stock takes.

Main duties of the job

Dispensary and Repeat room

  • To dispense inpatient, outpatient, discharge, leave and repeat prescriptions according to SOPs, including those patients requiring medication compliance aids.
  • To be responsible for the general tidiness and adequate stocking of the dispensary and ensure good stock rotation to minimise expired stock. 
  • To replenish the dispensary with cartons, bottles, and bags on a daily basis.

Distribution

  • To be responsible for supplying stock medicines via emailed stock order requests, authorised community orders and eMeds and supplying customers with a computer printout of the drugs supplied and their cost according to SOPs.
  • To be responsible for the processing and where necessary the disposal of medicines returned from wards and departments in line with SOPs.
  • To deal with telephone enquiries concerning supply of stock medicines, including availability and any discrepancies on stock orders. 

Stores

  • To undertake the day-to-day ordering, delivering, and invoicing of medicines, using the Emishealth pharmacy computer system, according to SOPs.
  • To be responsible for ordering bottles, cartons and other sundries ensuring the department is never out of stock.
  • To deal directly with suppliers to problem solve any issues with drug availability and discrepancies on orders and invoices.

Education/Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Educated to a reasonable academic standard
  • GCSE grade 4-9 in English, Maths, and science
  • In house training
  • Ongoing training and development
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ level 2 Pharmacy Services or equivalent

Experience
