The Dunstable CAMHS Emotional and Behaviour Team is an extremely friendly and professional team forming part of a broader South Bedfordshire CAMHS service. The post-holder will be offering assessments and treatments to young people with moderate to severe mental health difficulties, involving parent/carers, schools and other agencies as appropriate. We work alongside other CAMHS teams that offer more specialist support, for example for clients in crisis, or those with eating disorders or learning disabilities. We also work closely with our growing local community teams that have staff working in schools, GP practices and Early Help teams. The team is made up of: Management and Administrative staff, Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Psychotherapists, Creative Art Therapists, Systemic Therapists, Counselors, Nurse Specialists and Mental Health Practitioners.
This is a band 6 post. However, we are also able to offer a preceptorship to a newly qualified nurse starting at band 5, with support offered to enable development of competencies and promotion to band 6 within the team. It is expected that all competencies will be met within a maximum of 2 years through this process.

The post-holder will require a high degree of professional autonomy and self-management, and the ability to work well in a team. You will be supported by monthly management supervision in addition to clinical supervision by a qualified nurse. You will have access to a variety of CPD sessions, and annual performance appraisals. You will also participate in weekly clinical discussions with the teams, monthly complex case discussions and a bi-monthly reflective space.
The team leader is committed to staff development and there are regular opportunities for staff to apply for appropriate training courses. In the last year, staff in our teams have attended many courses including DDP, CBT, EMDR, NVR and DBT. We are also passionate about service user participation, for example involving service users in recruitment and service development. Our team is very supportive of trainees, offering placements in Arts Therapy, Clinical Psychology, nursing and psychotherapy. There are also frequent new developments in the service, offering staff the chance to work at a higher banding during the time of the project. As part of the East London Foundation Trust (ELFT), there are a significant number of positions in the trust for clinicians up to band 8D, opening up paths for promotion for ambitious members of staff. ELFT also prioritizes staff wellbeing and we have introduced a range of staff wellbeing initiatives to support this.

This post is based close to the M1 and easily reached by car from North London, Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Northamptonshire. The clinic also has the added benefit of free parking and all clinicians are supported by very dedicated and efficient administrative staff. Most of the work will be based in the clinic when not remote working, but access to a car is helpful. The Trust has an arrangement for 50% discount on season ticket fares with Thameslink, the rail provider, for its staff. A generous relocation package is available if you need to move to access this job.

- Able to work effectively in a multi-agency team
- Proven ability in standard setting and audit implementation
- Enthusiasm for a broad range of psychiatric phenomena, an interest in models of service delivery and an ability to articulate the value added by nursing services within the context of multi disciplinary mental health services
- The ability to maintain and represent a CAMHS identity within a multi- agency setting, including managing the dynamics of a team within a team, i.e. The Specialist Workers in that context.
- Ability to contain and work with organisational stress and ability to “hold” stress of others
- The ability to deliver CAMHS training within a multi-agency professional setting. (for example children’s social care, youth services, YOT)
- Able to manage own time and caseload, prioritising assessments and treatment in non mental health settings.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Able to work effectively across organisational boundaries
- A high degree of self-awareness and an ability to reflect on personal and professional attitudes and accept feedback
