We also provide some specialist services that are commissioned regionally, such as our medium secure services; and nationally, such as the Cassel Hospital for people with complex and severe personality disorder and our high secure services at Broadmoor Hospital.

Main duties of the job

Patient Care: Deliver compassionate, patient-centered care, assisting with hygiene, mobility, nutrition, hydration, and emotional well-being while maintaining patients' dignity and safety.

Clinical Support: Perform and record observations (e.g., vitals, blood glucose), assist with care plans, clinical tasks, mobility aids, and patient preparation for procedures.

Team Collaboration: Work within a multidisciplinary team and students, and contribute to handovers and meetings for seamless care delivery.

Administration: Maintain accurate patient records and ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and health and safety standards.

Development: Engage in training and development to enhance skills and stay updated on best practices.

General Duties: Maintain a clean, safe environment, support infection control, and undertake delegated tasks to ensure ward efficiency.

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • NVQ level three in care (or substantial relevant experience)
  • Care Certificate
Desirable criteria
  • 1. Additional relevant care-related qualifications (e.g. venepuncture, ECG recording, wound care, phlebotomy, catheter care).

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working in a health or social care setting.
  • Experience of providing direct care and support to patients/service users.
  • Experience of working as part of a team.
Desirable criteria
  • Experience in maintaining accurate patient records.
  • Experience of working with people who have had a fall (A, I)
  • Knowledge of aids and equipment used to promote independence (A, I)

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of personal care and basic nursing procedures and promoting patient independence
  • Understanding of confidentiality and data protection in a healthcare setting.
  • Awareness of infection prevention and control practices.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding principles for adults (and children where applicable).
Desirable criteria
  • 10. Understanding of NHS values and the role of the HCA within a multidisciplinary team
  • Knowledge of rehabilitation processes and promoting patient independence.
  • Familiarity with electronic patient record systems (e.g. SystmOne, Rio, EPIC).

Personal Qualities

Essential criteria
  • Able to communicate clearly and accurately, verbally and in writing, to a wide range of people including users, colleagues, carers, and managers
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills
  • Flexible and adaptable to the needs of the service (including shift work and weekends).
