 Junior Clinical Fellow – Rehabilitation Medicine  Royal Free Hospital Neurorehabilitation Centre, Edgware Community Hospital, London

We are seeking a Junior Clinical Fellow to join our 14-bed Level 2 Neurorehabilitation Unit, caring for patients with moderate complexity neurological injuries. This busy but well-supported department offers the chance to work within a multidisciplinary team of doctors, nurses, therapists, psychologists, and trainees, under the leadership of a consultant neurologist with registrar support.

The NRC works as an  integrated pathway within North Central London ( NCL ) P2 provision for P2 Bedded rehabilitation .

The post provides broad exposure to a range of neurological conditions including complex stroke , alongside access to in-house teaching, audit, and educational activities. Fellows will also have opportunities for specialty exposure and involvement in quality improvement initiatives.

This role is ideally suited to those bridging the gap between foundation and specialty training, or junior doctors seeking to develop their experience in neurology or rehabilitation medicine. Prior  NHS clinical experience is essential .

 

  

Main duties of the job

This post offers an excellent opportunity to gain experience in neurorehabilitation within a supportive multidisciplinary team. The NRC has 14 beds, admitting patients requiring level 2 rehabilitation, with close liaison to neurology and stroke services across North Central London , including Royal Free London , Barnet and North Middx Hospitals 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide safe, high-quality care for neurorehabilitation inpatients.

  • Participate in weekly consultant ward rounds, elective admissions, and patient discharges.

  • Lead daily ward rounds on non-consultant days.

  • Contribute to multidisciplinary team (MDT) and family meetings.

  • Support rapid discharge planning and timely patient reviews.

  • Communicate effectively with nursing, therapy, medical staff, and allied health professionals.

  • Engage in departmental teaching, audit, CPD, and educational activities.
  • Assist in training and supporting junior staff and MDT colleagues.

  • Uphold infection prevention and antimicrobial stewardship.

  • Participate in clinical governance, audit, guideline development, and risk management and appraisal 

  • Contribute to the delivery of departmental, Trust and National objectives.
  • Undertake occasional duties in emergencies or unforeseen circumstances.

  • Support infection prevention & control and antimicrobial stewardship activities. 

  • Participate as required in CPD and annual appraisal and revalidation

  • MBBS or equivalent degree
Desirable criteria
  • MRCP(UK) PACES or equivalent
  • Additional qualifications e.g. BSc, MSc or equivalent
  • Experience at CT/ST1 of managing patients within acute medical specialties
