A fantastic opportunity has emerged for an enthusiastic Band 5 Occupational Therapist to join our forward-thinking and dynamic Community team at the North London Foundation Trust. Are you:

The OT team:
- You will be working alongside a large team of inpatient and community OTs (Band 7, Band 6 and Band 4 Technical Instructors).
- The team has a wealth of experience and opportunities to share to aid learning and development. We offer a robust induction programme, including preceptorship (if applicable), many training opportunities in house and externally, and frequent robust supervision.
The service:
We provide comprehensive mental health rehabilitation to an adult population and the services includes The Learning Disability Pathway, Women’s services, Forensic CHOICES Community Hub and Healthcare provision within prison services.
The Community Team provide care and support for patients on the discharge pathway or those living in the community, who have received care within medium and low security due to presenting with complex mental health needs and a forensic / offending history.
Main duties of the job
- Working within our Forensic Community Team, across the boroughs of Camden, Islington, Barnet, Enfield and Haringey. You may be required to work outside of these areas at times.
- Providing OT assessment and intervention to patients detained under The Mental Health Act, 1983 (amended 2007), many of whom suffer from a severe and enduring mental illness and have a history of offending behaviour.
- Working alongside a robust multi-disciplinary team including Psychology, Speech and Language Therapy, Dual Diagnoses, Employment Advisors, Peer Workers and Care Coordinators.
- Liaising with internal and external services, e.g., Inpatient / OT teams, experts by experience, vocational and educational services, housing, etc.
- The OT role focuses on functional daily living skills, establishing structured routines and managing specific mental health and risk issues.
- Working alongside Band 4 Technical Instructors and Band 6 and 7 Occupational Therapists to deliver 1:1 session and a group programme to meet individual needs.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
Essential criteria
- Dip. COT or BSc OT & Registered with HCPC
Desirable criteria
- Qualifications in specific activities e.g. craft, gym etc
- Mandatory Training PSTS / PMCB training
EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE
Essential criteria
- Experience of group work
- Experience of working in an MDT
Desirable criteria
- Post graduate experience of working with people with mental health conditions relevant to specialty of post
- Experience of carrying out functional assessments
- Up to date knowledge of developments effecting OT practice
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Essential criteria
- Effective written communication skills to includes reports, assessments, supervision
- Ability to apply and develop core OT Skills
- Post graduate clinical experience in forensic Mental Health and a demonstrated ability to understand clinical needs of the forensic client group
Desirable criteria
- Experience of using MOHO assessments i.e. MOHOST, ACIS.
- Experience in Recovery principles
- Experience of co-facilitation of groups.
