Job overview
The Neurodiversity Team is a multidisciplinary team which is designed to provide a needs-led, family-centered approach for children under the age of six with neurodivergent learning needs. The team includes (but is not limited to) parents, speech and language therapists (SLT), occupational therapists (OT), paediatricians, clinical psychologists, administrators, assistants, the voluntary sector, and educators. The role involves demonstrating a neuro-affirmative attitude to differences such as autism and ADHD. The successful candidate will work closely with Health, Education, Social services and Voluntary services, Community Paediatricians, Therapists, Children with disabilities team, Health Visitors, School nurses, GPs Educational Psychologists and EASA. Initially, the role will be primarily in the diagnostic team, carrying out play-based autism assessments and ADOS assessments. As the service develops, there will be opportunities to explore other roles within the team, such as being a keyworker for a families, running MDT needs-led clinics for parents, and delivering training.
Main duties of the job
Main duties will be to assess children aged 0-6 for possible autism using the ADOS and/or other appropriate assessment tools and to liaise with the other members of the MDT to consider the correct outcome for the child. To present clinical information and opinions clearly and concisely to other professionals and to give families feedback about the outcome of assessments. You will be required to write high quality reports to explain the assessment process and outcome. Good understanding of neuroaffirming language and its importance.

- Recognised Speech and Language Therapy degree or equivalent
- Registered member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapist
- Registration with the Health Professions Council for Licence to Practice
Desirable criteria
- Recognised post graduate degree and training in a relevant area such as autism
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of working with neurodivergent children
- Experience of working with other professionals/early years staff.
- Ability to relate clinical theory to clinical practice.
- Knowledge and experience of a range of assessments appropriate for assessing social communication difficulties in pre-school and school children.
Desirable criteria
- Trained in ADOS (or willing to undertake training)
- A knowledge of relevant policies and documents, e.g. Early Years Framework, SEN reforms
- Experience of working with paediatricians
- Experience of working in children centres and nurseries, schools.
- Experience of assessing children for autism diagnostic purposes

Desirable criteria
- Able to construct clear care plans differentiating appropriate therapy from a range of options, based on analysis of information from assessment.
