To provide a high standard Occupational Therapy service to children aged 0-18years referred to Enfield’s Children’s Occupational Therapy Department. To contribute to planning, co-ordinating, delivering and evaluating the Children’s Occupational Therapy Service. To contribute to service improvements and Quality initiatives within the team. To be responsible for a defined caseload of children both within the community and special school, working autonomously with access to supervision. Advice and support from colleagues is available as required. To provide family centred, occupationally focused assessment and intervention to disabled children and children with additional needs. To work within the available evidence based and good practice guidelines To undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner. To assist in the supervision and training of students and junior staff as required.
Band 5 development to band 6 will be considered.

Main duties of the job
· To provide assessment and interventions for children with OT needs and to provide expert advice, guidance and information to families, carers, schools and other professionals.
· To accept clinical responsibility for a designated caseload of children, and organise this effectively and efficiently with regard to clinical priorities and use of time. To assist more junior staff in this.
· To participate in multi-disciplinary assessment and intervention.
· To select and apply appropriate Occupational Therapy assessments for children, addressing occupational performance and enabling the child in areas of self-care, productivity and leisure.
· To set occupationally focused intervention goals with children and/or their parents/carers that are family centred and agreed by the child and/or their parents/carers.
· To work within an occupational frame of reference.
· To demonstrate the ability to analyse the interplay of the child, environment and activity when assessing the child’s level of functioning and identifying appropriate strategies and intervention to facilitate and enhance participation in self-care, school and play/leisure.
· To demonstrate specialist knowledge of evidence-based practice and treatment options using current research, and clinical reasoning skills.
· To plan and implement individual and /or group interventions, in collaboration with the child/carer.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
· To use excellent communication skills when working with children and young people and their families/carers to ensure their voices are heard and is reflected in goal setting and intervention.
· To use a range of verbal and non-verbal communication tools to communicate effectively with children and carers. This will include individuals who may have difficulties in understanding or communication. For children who may be hearing or visually impaired, dysphasic or whose first language may not be English
· To demonstrate effective communication skills with multi-disciplinants members and partner organisation (e.g. Education and Social services). Contributing to decisions in regard to client care.
· To deliver training programmes to carer’s and school staff in line with care pathways.
· To promote awareness of the role of OT
· To use interpreters as appropriate

Essential criteria
- • Dip. COT or BSc OT or international equivalent • HPC Registered OT • Evidence of CPD
Desirable criteria
- • Fieldwork Education Certificate • Clean Driving Licence • Member of British Association of Occupational Therapy • Specialist knowledge through short courses eg. children with special needs- Equipment -Splinting
Experience
Essential criteria
- • Minimum 18 months postgraduate OT experience relevant to clinical area i.e. children’s, community, neurology, learning disabilities. • Evidence of self-directed Learning • Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team.
Desirable criteria
- • Experience of working with children • Experience of working within an occupational frame of reference • Experience of providing Supervision
