Job overview

* Support the patient pathway within the endoscopy unit - admissions, consenting, assisting in the procedure rooms, recovery and discharge.

* Take part in audits and be supported by senior members within the team.

* Contribute significantly toward the continuing development of professional nursing practice within the Endoscopy Unit.

* Act as a mentor and role model to others, reflecting the beliefs about professional nursing practice and patient care outlined in the Endoscopy department philosophy.

* Communicate information effectively to patients / carers and all members of the multidisciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

 The post holder must have experience in endoscopy.
 The post holder will be expected to liaise appropriately with all key members of the multidisciplinary team and service users related to the speciality.
 To be responsible for all aspects of patient care including the assessment, planning,
delivery and evaluation of direct patient care with supervision from senior staff.
 To support the Charge Nurse/Senior Sister to monitor the safety and quality of care for
patients.
 In the absence of the Junior Sister, the Charge Nurse will be responsible for the day-today management of the ward; to support the charge nurse.
 To work with the Junior sister in managing a group of Nursing Assistants and assign
delegated tasks and responsibility as appropriate.
 To develop the required skills in Endoscopy which allows the nurse to assist clinicians
safely and with confidence.
 To ensure the compliance of mandatory training and appraisal requirements for own self.
 To ensure a positive focussed service incorporating patients’ feedback to maintain and
improve patient care.
 To act as an effective role model promoting excellence through practice.
