Job overview

The nursing associate has a breadth of knowledge across the lifespan and across
the fields of nursing, providing holistic and person centred care supporting patients of all ages and
in a variety of settings. The nursing associate works independently under the leadership of
registered nurses, working within the sphere of nursing care, within all aspects of the nursing
process.
Nursing associates are equipped with knowledge relevant to employment as a nursing associate
and will work to a nationally recognised code of conduct

Main duties of the job

As a Registered Nursing Associate (RNA) in the main Outpatients Department, the duties and responsibilities include attending  the morning team huddles and participating as appropriate.
You will take the responsibility of understanding drug access and what drugs would be needed for the designated clinics that day.
You will undertake allocated/shared tasks such as checking the blood glucose meter, hypoglycemia box, resuscitation trolley, daily checklists and the room/drug fridge temperature.
You will ensure that the clinic is set up in agreement with the staff who were working in the clinic.
You will monitor the efficiency of the clinic and ensure that designated clinics are running on time, making sure to communicate with patients if there are any delays.
You will maintain a clean and tidy clinic area.
You will undertake clinical interventions such as wound/surgical dressings, removal of surgical clips/sutures and administering medication that has been prescribed in the clinic.
you will undertake clinical observations such as checking patients' vital signs, ECG's chaperoning and assisting patients who require help with
mobility/transferring.
You will have the opportunity to be trained and assist with minor surgical procedures.

Essential criteria
  • Post registration experience working in an acute hospital setting
  • Proven clinical experience in relevant area
  • Experience working with acutely ill patients
  • Ability to utilise pre registration experience to demonstrate an understanding of the relevant settings
Desirable criteria
  • Experience working in an Outpatient Department or similar setting
