Band 8a

Our trust has over 17,000 staff serving 2 million patients every year. It comprises Barnet Hospital, Chase Farm Hospital, the Royal Free Hospital, North Middlesex University Hospital and more than 30 services in the community.  This larger scale organisation provides an unprecedented opportunity for us to continue our pioneering work, particularly in finding ways to deliver even better care to our patients.

Our mission is to deliver world class care and expertise in our clinical services, underpinned by world class teaching and research and we will continue to measure our progress against our five governing objectives: excellent outcomes, excellent patient and staff experience, excellent value for taxpayers’ money, being safe and meeting our external duties, and building a strong organisation.

Everyone is welcome at Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust. We're proud of our diversity and we continue to undertake new initiatives to advance equality for LGBT+, BME, gender equality, staff carers and people with disabilities and lived experiences to promote good relations and understanding between our staff.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is a set of technology that can perform various tasks that typically required human intelligence. Your application is your opportunity to demonstrate to us how you meet the requirements of the role. We recognise that AI tools can support accessibility, equity and confidence for applicants. However, it’s important that examples and responses genuinely reflect your own experience and abilities, as these will be explored further during the selection process. AI must not be used to provide misleading or false information during any stage of the application journey. Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 8A Advanced Practice Physiotherapist (APP) to join our established Adult Musculoskeletal (MSK) Assessment Service. We are a community-based service accepting a broad range of MSK referrals from local General Practitioners (GPs) to provide enhanced assessment, facilitating onward referral and management.

We are seeking a dynamic and passionate clinician with extensive experience in the assessment, management, and treatment of MSK conditions. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a collaborative environment and is committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centered care.

You will play a pivotal role in advanced clinical decision-making, supporting service development, and fostering strong relationships with key stakeholders. In return, we offer excellent opportunities for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and broad personal growth.

Main duties of the job

  • Comprehensive Assessment & Diagnosis: Undertake detailed assessments of patients with a wide range of physical and emotional needs.
  • Clinical Decision-Making: Order and interpret diagnostic tests where appropriate and manage onward referrals.
  • Triage & Case Management: Review referrals from GPs, including those with complex medical issues, and ensure timely, effective triage.
  • Multi-Disciplinary Collaboration: Present cases succinctly at MDT meetings and liaise closely with consultant colleagues to facilitate onward care.
  • Injection Therapy: Ideally contribute to the injection therapy service, administering corticosteroid injections for common MSK presentations.
  • Teaching & Supervision: Provide clinical leadership, teaching, and supervision to the MSK Physiotherapy Service and support students and junior staff.
  • Service Development: Promote a positive and dynamic culture, building productive relationships with local GPs and other stakeholders.
  • Pain Service Liaison: Work closely with the Enfield Pain Service, a community-based multidisciplinary team with strong links to our service.

We are committed to supporting your professional development and offer opportunities to enhance your advanced practice skills.
