Job overview
Provide expert advice within the Trust on all aspects of resuscitation and early recognition of the deteriorating patient.
Demonstrate high quality resuscitation skills and credibility to those who require training and advice.
Help plan and develop training within the Trust and community, based on current guidelines and best practice.
Take initiative to help lead and develop resuscitation services for Trust and Community settings.
Assist to form policies and procedures related to all aspects of resuscitation throughout the Trust.and community
Audit all cardiac arrest/peri arrest calls and submit to the National Cardiac Arrest Audit as appropriate. Interpret and report results, and plan care/training needs around the analysis
Report equipment/training, Do Not Attempt Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation and/ or ReSPECT/Co-ordinate my Care audits at appropriate Governance Meetings
Deputise where needed for the Resuscitation Manager.
Be able to work autonomously within the resuscitation department/community on a day to day basis using initiative and prioritisation/decision making skills.

Main duties of the job
Attend daily cardiac arrest team meeting when not training. Encourage introductions, pre allocation of roles and identify any learning needs or site issues.
Attend emergency calls and participate as part of the cardiac arrest team when possible.
Provide expert advice and support to all levels of clinical staff during cardiac/peri-arrests and medical emergencies – escalate concerns appropriately.
Facilitate and participate in hot and cold debrief opportunities following emergency events.
Contact switchboard daily to follow up 2222 calls and enter cardiac arrest data into audit.
Identify any concerns and provide support as necessary.
Maintain a high clinical profile in the Trust.
Provide knowledge, advice, support and guidance to ensure best evidence based resuscitation practice to all Trust staff, in accordance to NMC Code of Conduct (or equivalent regulatory body) Trust and community policies, and RCUK guidelines.
Keep resuscitation Instructorship up to date and comply with regulations related to personal development and advanced courses.
Be fully conversant with the operation of all resuscitation training equipment used within the Trust and community both clinical and in training.
Collect and analyse data from defibrillators following cardiac arrest events to use in data driven debrief where possible.

Professional responsibilities
Manage personal appraisal dates and mandatory training and ensure you are supported through the Trust appraisal system.
Maintain up-to-date registration with the NMC or regulating professional body Practice within Trust policies, values and national codes of professional practice/conduct at all times.
Practice as a professional role model to all nursing and junior medical staff.
Demonstrate and maintain infection control standards as per Trust policies and procedures.
Include in training as appropriate.
Ensure maintenance and development of own clinical critical care skills through training and education as identified in personal development plan, and monitored through performance review.
Develop a good working relationship with the multi-professional team and attend multiprofessional meetings within the Trust and community settings as required.
Maintain patient and staff confidentiality at all times.
Work in conjunction and harmony with Resuscitation team members

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Current professional registration (i.e.Registered Nurse, ODP, Paramedic) Doctor
- BSc or equivalent experience
- Teaching qualification e.g. Certificate of Education, ENB 998 or equivalent
- Resuscitation Council (UK) Advanced Life Support Instructor in Adults
Desirable criteria
- Post registration qualification e.g. Critical Care
- Completed or working towards masters level degree
- Working towards Paediatirc/Neonatal Advanced Life Support Instructorship
- Experience working in community settings teaching resuscitation
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience within an acute care setting. Experience at a senior level of practice.
- Experience in delivering a range of resuscitation training and understanding to multidisciplinary staff.
- Understanding the importance of collating information from 2222calls and the potential impact this information may have upon the organisation, its staff and patients and visitors.
Desirable criteria
- Experience of developing and implementing resuscitation training Experience of risk assessment
- Experience of service development Auditing cardiac arrests/peri arrests
Skills
