Job overview

The adolescent mental health team works with adolescents presenting with high levels of risk and in crisis which requires an intensive, outreach approach to care. They are a multi-disciplinary team using an AMBIT model of working with high risk adolescents. The over all aim of the team is to provide specialist assessments, consultation, supervision and intensive community packages of targeted treatment and support for young people with severe mental disorder and their families. This includes young people at high risk of admission to psychiatric hospital, or placement in other specialist out of borough provision, including custody. There are formal links with adolescent substance misuse services and the Youth Offending Service. The Early Intervention Psychosis pathway is embedded within the team.

Main duties of the job

 

·     To support the consultant and multi-disciplinary team in providing and developing an effective CAMHS service.

·     Complete psychiatric assessments of new cases with consultant supervision.

·     Provide psychiatric treatment and follow up with consultant supervision.

·     Take part in multi disciplinary team discussions and meetings.

·     Take part in providing psychiatry cover for the 9-5 duty rota.

·       Record clinical activity accurately and comprehensively, and submit this promptly to the Information Department, in keeping with trust policies and procedures.

·     Complete assessment reports and clinical correspondence to be sent to GPs and other relevant agencies.

·       Undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of patients, this could include referrals to other services or agencies.

·       Take part in multi agency meetings associated with the care of patients, provide a psychiatric opinion and formulation when appropriate.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

It is envisaged that the post holder will work 10 programmed activities over 5 days. Following appointment there will be a meeting at no later than three months with the psychiatry lead and team manager to review and revise the job plan and objectives of the post holder.

The overall split of the programmed activities is 8 to be devoted to direct clinical care and 2 to supporting professional activities (as per the Royal College of Psychiatrists recommendation). The timetable below is an initial draft.  A formal job plan will be agreed between the post holder and clinical supervisor three months after commencing the post and at least annually thereafter.
